Saturdays: Weekly meets/drives in Chicagoland for RWD/AWD owners/fans (56k beware!)

When looking for us, look for the small orange cones on the edges of our line.
I'm sure with the weather we've been having you'll all be ready for a cruise. because of this:
We'll be sticking strongly to the times this week
Be punctual, it's the wave of the future.
Schedule:
5:30pm - 6:30pm Meet at Streets (by Dick's)
6:30pm - 7:00pm Drive to Meijer
7:15pm - 7:30pm Driver's meeting
7:30pm - 8:15pm Cruise Teh Ring
8:15 pm -??:??pm FOOD
More cruising after food.
(5:30pm - 6:30pm) Streets of Woodfield (Schaumburg)
Map:
(In the map, the oval represents where we should try to meet. (If that area is pretty full, the spaces closer to the frontage road/highway will also work. BTW, for reference the square is $tarbuck$. If the area in front of frontage road is full, please meet on the other side of Dick's sporting goods (circled in blue), closest to the corner of Martingale and Woodfield Rd--the road inbetween Streets and the Main Woodfield Mall.)
Weather: (weather.com | accuweather)
(7:00pm - 7:30pm) 815 S. Randall Rd Elgin, IL 60123
Directions:
Take 90 west, exit Randall rd and make a left.
Follow Randall south for about 5 miles.
Make a left on College green drive. (you'll see a large Meijer sign and an ELGIN water tower)
Make a quick right into the Meijer parking lot.
Notes for the area:
- Be careful on Randall rd. There tends to be a fair amount of rice activity on Randall so the PO is always watching.
- Since the cruise route is largely wooded, be on the lookout for wildlife!
From the new meet location we'll be driving 4 miles to "t3h ring", a 12 mile loop with plenty of twists and elevation changes .
This can be a very challenging drive so be sure to read (click the article): The Pace
DO NOT DRIVE LIKE AN @SSHAT WHILE YOU LOOK FOR US OR ARE WITH US. ALSO: NO BURNOUTS. NO REVVING. NO "DRIFTING". NO STEREO BLASTING. NO LITTERING.
Here are the meet rules:

Here are the drive/tour/cruise rules (being developed all the time):

If you don't have one already, bring an FRS (e.g. Motorola Talkabout) radio that can do privacy/security channels. You'll have a much better time during the cruise.

Here's more information on the radios...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Radio_Service
http://www.gmrsweb.com/codetable.html <- CTCSS/Privacy/Security code translation table
Whatever brand you get, make sure it's got the CTCSS/Privacy/Security codes so you can talk with us.... so far the three interoperable brands appear to be Cobra, Midland, and Motorola. (Their privacy/CTCSS codes match).
Cheaper FRS radios only have channels 1-14. FRS radios with the CTCSS/Privacy/Security sub-channels have channels 1-14 with subchannels 1-38 in each main channel, ala 1^1-1^38 - 14^1-14^38.
You can still listen into conversations on equipment that doesn't support subchannels, but you can't speak/broadcast.

Here's this week's (090107) meet info:
We've got a brand new meet and cruise in West Chicago.
This is probably our twistiest course to date. Plenty of Very tight turns with elevation changes.
The setup is a 17 mile ring. Just like 'teh ring' only a little larger. Unlike the ring, it has 77 curves
Meet Location:
Streets and then:
Augustino's Deli,
WEST CHICAGO, IL
300 West North Ave.
Augustino's website
Meet at streets: 5:30 - 6:30pm
Cruise to Augustino's: 6:30 - 7:00pm
Cruise 7:30 - ???
After cruising we'll come back to Augustino's for dinner and then it'll be back out for more cruising!

(Since West Chicago is not my neck of the woods another staffer is running the meet today, so I won't know my way around either!)
Sounds like its going to be some interesting geography though

Thank you to everyone who drove out to meet and drive some more with us :)
Thanks to carla, jason, jim, and oddy for joining us for the meet and drive yesterday. I didn't get a tonne of pictures but I'm sure some of the others did... I'll put them up here as soon as they make it through processing
