Cool

prices are not that bad if you compare the rest of the world prices. ignore the USA, cos an e92 m goes for over 1.2 million rand in australia, and in england the e92 m3 goes for about R680000 whereas it costs R650000 here, so comparitively our prices are quite cheap compared to the rest of the world. a mate of mine working in aus went to by an s3 said it costs 560000 rand over there and here it is 330000 rand and our cars are often specced far higher and come with motor plans included. an f430 costs 2.5 million rand here, while costing nearling twice as much in AUS. thats why you dont see many nice cars there, last time i went for 3 weeks i spotted one 5 series and a c200k thats it in 3 weeks and i was apparently in the rich area. came back to SA, there were two bently cgt and rolls phantom at the airport. lollys green murci was parked outside and i counted just walking to my car 5 RS4, and 3 brand new m3.

the thing is bentleys are overpriced here, compared to england, whereas we have an advantage for the AMG mercs, as we get export credits or whatever. a cl65,sl65 and a s65 costs more than some lambos and ferraris in the UK, where as here they cost just above the price of an R8, lets just say about 500 000 rand less than a GT3 RS.

anyway the americans get spoiled with their cheap car prices, i dont understand, why say an m3 costs cheaper in america than where it does in germany where its made, can someone explain this?

oh well atleast we have proper GT3 RS, the ones with the proper seats and full cage and the proper spec, including the 74kg reduction in weight there is a huge difference between the normal gt3 and the RS as i have driven both, and its not simply a paintjob like one gets in the USA

I'm sorry CSL, but you are mistaken. The car prices in the UK are actually 20-30% cheaper than in SA. I was just there in February, and a friend of mine had also just bought their LP640 in London. Their fuel prices are ludacris though. An LP640 costs 220k pounds meanwhile it costs 313k pounds equivalent in SA even with the crap exchange rate at the moment. CL65 are in proportion with our price gaps between Lamborghini or Ferrari. I have yet to see a CL cost more than a F430 in the UK. I'm sure members from there can quote. F430's also cost closer to R3 mill over here.

Australia is almost exactly the same, some being slightly cheaper and 1 or two marques maybe 5% more. You are also mistaken about exotics in Australia, they are almost as common to see there as any place in Sandton here. You just need to be in the right area. I mean take a look at this website here. http://aussieexotics.com/drivers/ Remember Australia had a Pagani Zonda and McLaren F1 way before we got one here. They also have some Jaguar XJ220's and recently a Bugatti Veyron has landed on their shores.

Yes, our GT3's are much nicer than the spec in the States - we don't really have very high safety standards to meet. So long as it is RHD!

Not trying to bust your *****, but I know these markets well. I've been looking around at bringing in some cars.

i see what you mean mike, no offence taken. if you look at the new cars in action magazine, it gives one a breakdown of car prices around the world compared to SA. the german cars here (because of export credits) are generally higher in other countries, our m3 are cheaper even than the UK, whereas our exotics are a little more expensive. german cars in AUS are few and far between because of the import duties imposed a 330i costs more than a 100 grand more in aus than here. from what i have seen there are two veyrons in SA maybe more, i know the one guy lives in Scotland but has a house here and as such leaves it here all year round. what i really have been wanting to ask you, is that the two CLK DTMs in the autotrader are still not sold, is there any chance of you picking one up, or are you not that interested in mercs?

i know there is quite a few in SA, i have been in jaime viella one, and its truely astonishing

Hey there guys, new user so just a quick bow 2 the forum gods
And a hello to everybody else including my fellow South Africans Mike and CSL_22Blover

Its absolutely great 2 see such exotics arriving here in South Africa. I live in Durban so we don’t have such an abundance of exotics as JoBurg but there are definitely some around. Within the last two month or so I have seen two F430's one Gallardo and a yellow LP640 (Was parked at Gateway shopping centre just the other day, was that yours Mike?).

As far as the pricing of exotics here in SA goes, I’m no expert but when one does some calculations it seems that we are getting ripped off. Then again all cars look pretty expensive to me at the moment as I’m just 20 years old and a varsity student lol.

Anyway hope that there are a lot more supercars to come as the world would be a dull place without them.

Chris

The magazines are NEVER accurate - do you know how many 0-100's etc. they have wrong, not to mention even certain car models wrong and they're car magazines! Don't trust their pricing regarding prices internationally - it is old and out of date.

I don't fancy the CLK DTM at all - I used to have a CLK500 cab 5 years ago. I just can't justify paying 4 mill for a CLK with a bodykit (although I know there are huge changes underneath). If they were that much of a collectible - they would have been sold long ago, instead they have been at various show rooms trying to get potential buyers and after a year - still no takers.

Hi Chris,

There are now 2 yellow LP640's in the country. Mine was the first. It must be the other one that you saw. Mine has only been down to CT and JHB.

Let's start with the facts.... the Swedish-built Koenigsegg CCX is the world's fastest supercar at 3.2sec to 100km/h and 0-300km-0 in 31.2sec.

A Bugatti Veyron does the latter in 41.5sec and officially tops out at 395km/h, but Christian von Koenigsegg, 35, recently took his car to 429km/h and plans on getting the boys from Guinness to certify the Bugatti-beating record very soon.

It took the record from McLaren F1's at 388km/h - by 1km/h - in February 2005.

The CCX launched in 2005 uses Agusta helicopter rotor blade mountings for wheel hubs because they can handle 601kW and if that's not enough juice it will make 746kW when run on E85 bioethanol
The CCX uses Agusta helicopter blade mounts for wheel bearings.

The car weighs about the same as a Mini Cooper so its twin-supercharged, 4.7-litre, quad-valve V8 gives it a power-to-weight ratio similar to that of a space shuttle.

But the important fact is that, of the 30 Koenigsegg CCX units in existence, three will be garaged in South Africa.

The first has just been shown to the country's Who's Who in Johannesburg and there to take delivery was the the car's proud buyer, one Mr Jackson. Lolly (as he's more commonly known) ordered his CCX in an in-your-face orange and, just in case you can't recognise it as the supercar it is, its number plate has been replaced with a tasteful Teazers sticker.

It's a bargain...

If you're interested in one of the other two on their way drop in at the Daytona Group showroom on Rivonia Road, Sandton - you know, the one with all the Aston Martins and Rollers parked outside.

Expect to pay around R14-million (with import penalties)for the Swedish supercar - a bargain, given that you get a two-year warranty... - Star Motoring

Thanks for the sweet pics. Have been a major fan of the CCX ever since I read about the founder way back when. Only problem with the South Africa model is that the steering wheel's on the wrong side of the car (joke, joke).

Never thought there'd be a place where I'd feel like a peasant driving a Bentley. Wow. (jp)

Awesome cars. I'm not a huge fan of the Zonda's looks in spite of my great respect for its performance ability. The CCX is amazing. What were they thinking with that stereo head unit though?

Yes, I ask my dealer all the time out of curiosity. They only get 4 LP640's allocated to SA per year (including roadsters). So far there has only been 1 other. Must have been a regular Murci you saw.

The DTM would have been if it weren't for our rediciulous cars prices - after our taxes it makes it a ridiculous price to pay for a MB.

Next car is a secret....

No I don't work for standard bank, my phantom is white. I'll consider the GT2 once I see it - the scuderia is out of the question, I'll have to wait until time ends before I will get one from Rosso. I've moved my deposit to the F430's successor (when ever that may be).
