Any tips/tricks for removing the scuff marks left by, dragging feet on the option aluminum doorsills on a 997? I remember when they looked so nice and shiny...can they be restored???

 

Post a picture please. Most likely, you can polish out the scuffs. But pictures will help to better diagnose.

 

After Moe helps you get the scuffs out, you might do what I did. I had some custom strips of Ventureshield applied over mine to protect them.

 

You should try a metal polish first designed for that type of finish.

If that doesn't work, I've also had a lot of success with ultra fine steel wool, #0000 grade also works great on exhaust and other metal finishes.

Some of those look a bit too deep, but others look promising. Your best bet is an aluminum polish or even a little sanding. Before you go further, let me do some research and get back to you. This interests me very much.

 

Isn't there a clear coat over the metal?

 

They are deep, you can lessen them, but you will not be able to remove them.

Your best bet, buy new sills, then get them covered with invisible clear bra. Then when they get scuffed, you just replace the clear bra.

The other thing is to learn how to get in & out of the car with out scuffing your feet. It's harder to teach your spouce/GF/other. I can tell what color shoes my GF is wearing by the scuffs on the sills, so I'm doing the yearly replacement of the clear bra.

So I'm hearing fine-grit steel wool? Polishing does not seem like it will take the scuffs out...I don't want to make things worse?

 

It's not only bare aluminum but its brushed aluminum and if you start polishing it out with a polish its going to remove the brushed effect and really look funny. Best solution is to replace and then put a clear shield over the new to prevent future damage.

 

They look really deep, I don't think it can be repair unless it's change.

 

This is pretty standard. Mine look the same. Pretty much normal wear and tear. The only way to avoid this is to really watch it each time you get in and out of the car.

I am having mine changed to the carbon fibre illuminated type this week. Hopefully the CF won't scratch up so easily.
