Zymol Waxes

Anyone on the forum have much experience with Zymol waxes? I love the LSP I use (Prima Car Care, Epic) but would like to try out a higher end wax on some upcoming details Is the high price justified? I am looking at Concours, particularly.

Moe will probably be the best person to answer anything about Zymol but have you considered Swissvax?

Square is infamous around these parts
I really like Zymol waxes, and they have a few other unique products like Seal. But, I also like the Pinnacle Sovereign wax. I have won local Concours events with Pinnacle, but never Zymol. Not sure that is a good comparison since local Concours do not have consistant judging.

Zymol is great stuff! The depth & shine is unreal. However, it takes some time to learn how to use it. It's also labor intensive. lastly, it really doesn't last long. This is all from my personal experience with just about every wax they produce.

IMHO, it's a little over priced.

However, if you are doing car shows, or have really, really nice car, it's just not worth the time, & money. Also, it's a shine, that is super hard to beat.

After using Zymol for about 8 years, I found 1Z/ Einszett & LOVE IT! About 85% of the shine & 10% of the work & 2% of the price. I gave away about $2000 worth of left over Zymol to a local detailer.

Are high-end waxes worth it? You really are the only person that can answer that question. You have to remember that the best way to better the appearance of your paint is to learn paint correction/polishing, not just buy a more expensive wax. When I detail a car and get it perfect and spend 15+ hours on the detail, 95% of the reason why the car looks soo amazing is because of the prep/paint correction that was done and the last 5% of the appearance comes from the wax. Think of wax as icing on the cake. How do you know when its time to upgrade you wax? Well I guess when you feel like you could tell the difference if you used a higher quality wax on your paint.

In the $275-$200 range I would go with Swissvax Concorso/Smaragd or Chemical Guys Ezyme. I personally like Ezyme and think it looks amazing on certain colors, but I think Concorso/Smaragd are more versatile and are a lot easier to work with. Chemical Guys like to make oily waxes therefore making them hard to work with at times. I am glad I have both, but if I were just to buy one I would go with Concorso. Some people prefer Smaragd because of wax sweating issues with Concorso, but I have had good success with my Concorso. Also some people like Supernatural, but I personally don't care for it. Stay away from any Zymol waxes in this price range. The only Zymol wax that I have tried and like is Vintage.

Feel free to ask me any questions regarding wax choice or just any detailing questions in general. I am new to the forum, but I am a huge detailing freak and I collect wax so I have tried/own pretty much everything out there. If you let me know the color of your car (color plays a huge role in wax choice), and your price range I can really lead you in the right direction.

Thanks,
Jared

Hey Jared,

Thanks for such an in depth reply. I too am a big time detailer (read "ocd") and know that prep work is what makes the car a show winner. I will give this Swissvax a try when I can find the funds to place an order.

Thanks again,
Brendan

Haha, I wish that detailer was me! Thanks for your reply and input. It seems that while Zymol may make an awesome product, it is certainly not the only one out there.

Thank you,
Brendan

Simply put Brendan, find a car that has a finish you love. Then ask the owner what he/she uses. Higher-end waxes like zymol are more than what's in the jar. Simply put, it's the total experience. People say Ferrari or Porsche aren't worth it. Well...it's a matter of opinion really. Same goes with car care products. Zymol has always been the first high-end car care line in the world. It was made with a unique philosophy in mind. Those that use the product get that philosophy. It's about cherishing the ownership experience and caring for your car in a manner that's unique.

So, with that said, our best selling wax for the enthusiast by far is Concours. As mentioned before, wax is like icing on the cake. You must have a good foundation for these products to be applied to. Your main concern should be how do I prep the finish. At the end of the day, a finish that isn't prepped properly will not maximize the full potential of any wax. I'd rather have a finish that has been polished properly and void of major imperfections and apply a $20 wax like einszett glanz. But if quality time, passion, and value are factors you're going for, give zymol a try; you won't be disappointed. I guarantee it

Moe,

Thanks for your reply. As I said, I would love to try them all out, it's just a matter of finding that much money to spend on wax.

No worries dude..when you get the dough, you'll actually be getting a great value when buying the zymol wax. Each 8oz jar will yield about 50 applications. That can mean 12-25 years of wax depending how often you wax your car. Excellent value in my book.

He will be getting a great value by buying any wax. You should be getting that many apps out of any $50+ paste wax you buy, but I wish I got 12 years out of my wax. Though my personal testing with all the waxes that are in the $175-$300 range while factoring in price, paint clarity, depth, shine, gloss, and reflection all tested on perfectly prepped surfaces, Swissvax Concorso was the winner. Some of the other waxes I tested were Supernatural, Rubbish Boys OE, Zymol Conco and CG Ezyme. Surly it is mostly personal preference, but some of my detailing friends came to the same conclusion. A perfect example of what I mean by personal preference and how expensive does not always mean better would be my friend with a gt3rs. My friend bought some Zymol Conco off Moe for his GT3rs, and after testing it with his other favorite wax he came to the conclusion that he like Collinite 476 (a $30 wax) better then Zymol Conco. Its just an example that everyone has a different look that they are going for, but thats my 2cents on what I would chose in the price range of $175-300 through my side by side testing. But surly the only way to truly enjoy any wax is to apply it to a perfectly prepped surface. Surface prep is where its all at.
