On the basis of useing the least aggressive product first, I would try a cleaning product before resorting to an abrasive, as the leather used is thin you may 'breakthrough' the hide and have to replace it

Yea. Cleaner would be best. I'm not sure if I ever want to wet sand my leather. Hahaha. Sounds like I'm going to mess it up.
