Hi Moe, what do you recommend on a scratched leather seats? it's on the driver seat side of the BMW M3. i tired using the zymol leather conditioner. It still shows the line scratch. your input would be appreciated.

 

Can you post a picture Ed? My gut tells me leatherique rej oil and prestine clean combo would be the answer. But, shoot me a photo and I'll know better.

Need to clean and protect my dash of my 997. I don't have a leather dash wish i did! I was going to use aerospace 303 on it. What do you think?

 

303 is an excellent product Alex. Simply spray it on a foam applicator and apply it to the vinyl or plastic surface. Then, you can wipe the panel with a soft mf cloth to even out any irregularities.

 

Moe I have fine sratches in the paint, seen with a small led flashlight i use. Ive read that when u rub u will get some no matter what. I use 2 bucket wash, wool mit, blow dry and good MF towels to wipe product off. I fold the towels into sq and go thru 4-6 of them. Is it just the cost of doing business or am I missing a step?

Are you talking about swirls? After you do a proper detail those scratches will go away, then with proper washing they shouldn't return for a long time

 

Great question Ken. The question is are you starting from a paint that's been properly polished and the imperfections have be eliminated? If so, then your wash routine is putting in those small scratches. The other source could be what and how you've polished. You may not have ever removed the existing swirls and scratches, and merely hid them. As you wash, you also take away the oils in a polish or wax which then reveals the imperfections that were never removed.

So:

1. What polish have you used to eliminate the swirls and scratches?
2. Done by hand or machine?
3. If done by machine, what machine and polish/pad combo?
4. Are you using a synthetic or natural wool mitt?

These are some good starting point questions...awaiting your response.

 

+1...they should never re-appear. Anything new is the result of NEW imperfections. Great input. We'll wait to hear back Ken's response to the questions above.

 

I have recently purched a 09Vantage with 5K miles. It is jet black and it has more swirls and fine scratch (many that may have come from the factor) then I would have expected. To correct the paint I have at my disposal, a old rotary polisher (one rpm setting) and a Flex DA, Super Intensive polish, Power Finish, Super Finish and Final Polish and assortment of pads. I was thinking of using the rotary with SIP and a white pad, than going to Power Finish with the DA and black (gray) pad and then Final Polish/DA/Gray Pad. I am not sure what speeds to use on the DA (4?) and if this is a good progression. Suggestions?

 

Ok, the car was corrected by a well known detailer in my area that is the very best, David F. The scratches are fine straight scratches, I rub front to back only. In direct sunlight they can be seen if u look, under the led flashlight they are very visible. started with an 80% correction aftr David finished with it, its a daily driver.

1. No polish, I used Pinnacle Paintwork Cleansing Lotion with a lakecountry red pad then topped it with sig II caranuba.
2. By hand, polishing pal
3. NA
4. Unsure whether its syn or natural, gonna check that tonight.

On Aston paint there are several issues:

1. Microscratches
2. Swirls
3. DA sanding marks from factory
4. Compound hazing and buffer trails from factory

Using the flex will fix the following: 1,2,4

Here's your recipe:

Stage 1: Flex,SIP,purple wool pad. Start on setting 3, spread polish, and polish down on setting 5.5

Stage 2: Flex,SIP,Orange CCS Pad. Same speed and technique as above

Stage 3: Flex,Super Finish,White CCS pad. Same speed and technique as above. This step should go faster than the rest since most of the imperfections have now been eliminated.

Final Step: Wax

Take your time with stage 1...most important. This whole process should take you about 10-15 hours.

At the end, your paint will be the envy of any Aston owner within miles around. Good luck and make sure to show us your work and before/after shots.

 

I've heard of your detailer and he does excellent work and is well respected in the professional community. Have you shown him your finish and asked for his advice? I'm humbled you'd seek my advice, but it seems you have a very capable detailer that can give you great advice and perhaps take care of these issues.

Once these imperfections are eliminated, it should be very easy to keep up. Your technique of washing and drying is critical here. Have you purchased a CR Spotless or Airmax yet? They'll be your best friend.

Thanks Moe, I appreciate ur humble attitude. I realize it's tough to troubleshoot without seeing the scratches ect.. I have an appointment with David in March. I just wanted to pinpoint my error, frankly I am not even gonna clay this car. I have practiced on my wifes infinity with some success. This Pcar paint is just to soft for any heavy work in my hands.
