Here is another vehicle with similar razor cuts, but this one is actually much deeper. Although many people do not understand why it happens, it really comes down to companies that are either very new to the industry or they have never received proper training in custom applications.

We have been in this industry since 1997 and we have been seeing this type of damage picking up in recurrence in the past 5 years. Most consumers do not know better and generally rely on a "certificate" that he is qualified to perform the work. In many instances there's more damage going onto these cars then the protection being received.

We were able to polish off some of the lighter cuts, but the remaining deep cuts are permanent.

As the economy run through this deep flux, we have seen quite a few new companies joining the industry. Good for competition, but bad for consumers especially with the lack of experience. Here is another example of what may go wrong in the event of having a bad install take place..

The dimples and excessive stretch marks come from the adhesive getting distorted and damaged from improper application. Now this is not to say that a good install is completely free from such defects, but those depicted in these pictures were obviously bothering the customer. He decided to not take it up with the previous company and decided to have us redo just about everything.
There are excessive gaps and inconsistent cuts that also bothered this customer.

As we removed the film, not surprisingly considering the jagged cuts and gaps, there were razor cuts on the paint as well left by the previous company:

Some very deep, some very light cuts in the paint. All unacceptable

So this is from installers not using precut kits? Precut means no cutting on the car, right?

Yikes, that orange car was a disaster. Was that the optional 48 piece bumper kit.... Terrible.

Guys, I am working with a reccommended mobile installer in my area, who is the service that many dealers use. Seeing these cars hacked to pieces makes me really scared, my car is an 09 TT with 50 miles, I don't want it sliced to bits. Will using a precut kit avoid these issues?

I am also going to be doing a passport 9500ci as well, which will require the bumper to come off. Should I clear after that install, or should I tell them about the install coming up? Thanks

A pre cut kit will not necessarily guarantee you won't have cut paint. A lot of inexperienced installers will cut when they feel they can't get the film to lay flat. When installing a clear mask, shop around for quality, not price. As Premier has shown here, poor installations can cost you more money and headaches in the long run.

As detailjohn has mentioned, it does not guarantee a poor application or damage to the paint. A bad installer is a bad installer regardless of the type of installation performed (precut or custom). Take a look at some of the work already done on the dealer's showroom to see if the quality is on par with your standards. Good luck!

Having a company that utilizes a precut application does not mean they will not cut the paint. When an inexperienced installer puts the film down incorrectly and the kit does not fit, then they will go to more drastic measures of cutting the kit to fit.

There are plenty of excellent installers on the market, however, what is very important in this process is to source out a company based on quality and not pricing. The companies that cannot compete via quality will try to draw customers in with exceptional deals on pricing. Just be careful. Always look at the finished product to see if the installers' standards match yours.

As for the passport install, it wouldn't hurt to have that installed first.

Just wanted to share some more photos of another car that just came in this morning. The previous owner actually thought it was a pretty good clear bra installation. This all comes down to what each individual's willing to accept. Some have higher tolerance than others.
