You have been great a helping me solve issues over the years and I appreciate your presence on 6speed.
Thanks!!! I was referring mainly to our detailing board. As you know, a lot of the guys that post on other detailing forums, also post here. What's nice about here is that most threads are for and by DIYers and they are helped with pros. I think that's pretty cool. And based on the vendors and detailers here, you have a diverse and dynamic venue of products and advice. Can't beat that Thanks for all your input too. Great to see a DIYer enjoying the hobby and caring for his car so well. Keep chiming in and sharing your input.

Commercialism brings with it concerns of honesty and true representation. In other words, it’s difficult to know what is true when someone is motivated by income, i.e. directly targeted at product sales, more so than an unbiased opinion. One of the advantages of being independent and not having to answer to shareholders

Choose carefully whose advice you listen to, and more importantly what advice you act upon. The misinformation and myths that are so prevalent in the detail industry is the reason that detailers need to do research on their own. Treat all marketing claims as being just biased marketing claims and if you're lucky they will be based on truth and the company will operate ethically.

I would strongly suggest that you verify any information that I or anyone else shares with you. It is the individual’s responsibility to confirm the information supplied and apply it to their situation

To answer the original post question-.for many years (twenty plus) my polymer sealant of choice was an acrylic polymer (Klasse) I then converted to a polymer sealant (Zaino) and used it for approx fifteen years, but automotive sealants and coatings(Opti-Coat™, Aquartz, Permanon, G|Techniq) have evolved immensely over the last five years or so and have changed paint protection to an inordinate degree.

Of these Opti-Coat™ thus far seems to me to be the best of this type of paint surface coating product

My car is silver. I'm not sure what "look" I'm going for. I would like a nice shine and a somewhat wet look. Paint protects, especially from bug guts is important.

I don't have any issues with Zaino. The drying time is a pain at times but I can live with that. I have seen many people say the is "better technology" out there. What is it? Why is it better than Zaino?

I would say Blackfire wet diamonds sealant is better looking and more durable than Zaino. Next up from there are coatings EXO being next in terms of looks and beading (it is new so not saying how long it lasts) and then the Opticoat which is super durable and less susceptible to. Micro marring.

The above I have used and like so far. Other I want to try cquarts, and wolfs hard body.

The key is in the polishing. You must decontaminate the paint first with iron x then clay or other specialty pad like a nano skin and then polish before you apply any of the other last step protective products. Coatings are suppose to last longer. They can be more challenging to apply but I am not a pro and. I was able to get good results.

Zaino is not bad, in fact it was ahead of its time but I think it's been surpassed by easier to use systems that look as good or better and are as or more durable.

All my personal opinions.

Why is this paint protection of choice?

The advances made by Optimum Polymer Technologies over other polymers and coatings; Optimum Opti-Coat™ crosslink’s and reacts with urethane and other clear coat paints to form an additional barrier between the elements and your vehicle's paint andis based on a resin pre-polymer that uses a configuration of (Si 14) (SiO2 -silica) bond, which are far more resistant to enzymes than the C-C configuration used in polymer sealants. As a consequent it is more resistant to the acids found in bird and insect excrement, industrial fallout (acid rain, etc) or the alkaline found in road salt. It forms ceramic bonds at very high temperatures and will not be damaged by extreme heat and therefore resists oxidation.

The coating hardness starts at 6-7 but will increase over time to 9H as it is exposed to heat, it .will get to a hardness of 9H after it is fully cured (90 days). It exhibits a 2-4 µ (microns) applied thickness. Compare this to a wax or sealant thickness of ~ 0.02 µm (microns) and a hardness of 9H (Pencil Hardness) when fully cross-linked and provides a semi-permanent coating.

It’s a hyper-concentrated coating product, so a little bit goes a long way. One ounce will seal and protect 3-4 vehicles. Its application is similar to that of a single component Isocyanate that forms a semi-permanent clear coat finish and lasts almost indefinitely. Unlike waxes and paint sealants that require frequent reapplication

JSF721, you are completely correct in what you have said. Detailingbliss is probably the most unbiased forum out there, I don't see any brands getting shoved down anyone's throat over there by reps like on other forums. Even non-members can give a quick browse to other forums and be able to see what's really going on, and which are biased and unbiased.

RZJZA80-I appreciate the support. I am a member of 6speed and will do my best to help other members on this board navagate the subject detailing. I am not a professional but I have tried alot of stuff and read alot of threads on too many boards. I know the good, bad and ugly. Thanksfully there is not too much bad or ugly but you need to look out as a newbie becasue the nice guy "helping you" night be selling you! Clearly there are people selling products on these boards and getting paid to push products. I fully expect that a fellow 6speed member would guide me if they were in the know about a subject area. Thats what makes these pplaces great.

I have nothing against vendors selling but I don't like things shoved down peoples throats. And I realize there is a fine line at times. Perhaps it is just more tolerable form some becasue of their approach.

I used Zaino on a silver car and it was terrific!

I am interested in using a sealant on my guard red 911. I like a really clear glassy look. Can you have wet and glassy or are that at opposite ends of the spectrum?

Which product would look best on guards red?

I don't understand most of this, but how would you describe it for easy of application, durability and look on a guards red?

DB is definitely not the most unbiased forum out there.
L2D is though, the owner of the site isn't a vendor, people talk freely about products (Like how much Sonax suck), and there isn't even a vendor section.
