issue with convertible top. expert opinion needed
#16
I was able to get my issue resolved after 2 visits to the p dealer. Basically it was the electrical tape rubbing against the top when open/closing. The electrical tape holding one of the harness came loose and the sticky residue was left over from it. The dealer retaped and cleaned my top and it never came back. The top always had the white mark however but no more sticky residue...

Thanks for the follow up. I was able to inspect the harness last night - it is easily accessible with the top mostly up. Mine is very gummy directly below the spot where my top is oozing.
Should be an easy DIY. I'm looking now for harness tape that is sticky on one side. The common recommendation seems to be 3M Super 33+, a high quality vinyl electrical tape. I'd prefer something that is made of fabric (such as friction tape or gaffers tape) but these are usually sticky on both sides.

convert top spot
gramma's secret spot remover-I had a oil spot (bleed thru from the black tape wrapping the wire under the driver side edge convert top)on my 2002 911 cap grey top, tried everything, convert top shop, etc (including wolfstons, which is good stuff). used gramma's ($5 a bottle @ the Vermont country store, or on line @ gramma's website). removed the spot, did NOT harm top, did not leave a lighter mark, cannot see where it was-fantastic stuff!!
