Porsche to Ferrari?

Im currently a proud owner of a 07 997S Aero. I will be selling it soon to buy a new home and relocating. Next year I will be purchasing another toy, and I was thinking of maybe a used 360 (hopefully 430 but unlikely) with F1 transmission. Ive been a hardcore manual type of guy but was thinking of going a new direction. A Ferrari would be the biggest transition, and then to a non-manual tranny would be the other one. Anyone make a similar transition?

I would suggest taking a look at Ferrarichat.com. There are many aspects of owning a Ferrari and it's best to familiarize yourself with some of the issues. There's a lot of discussion on F1 or 6spd, the type of exhaust to buy, the type of wheels to buy, etc... I lurked on Fchat for more than a year trying to read and learn as much as possible before taking the dip. You will not regret getting a Ferrari. I am fortunate to have both, but it's the Fcar that stirs my soul.

I have undertaken this move... Switching form 997 C2 to the 430 Scuderia, October delivery. I felt in love with the F430 while taking a drive on a track... And never looked back... Although I think the 360 is a nice car but in order to be fully convinced with this transition, I would suggest to save... and get an F430 instead of a 360.
Best of luck.

I went from a 993, to a 996 Turbo, to a 430 Spider (F1), and have a 575M (F1) now to go with the 430. I love the cars! I loved my Porsche's, but I wouldn't go back to a Porsche over the Ferrari's. I also love the F1 transmission over the manual. Go for it, you won't regret it unless you buy a bad car!

I made the transition a couple of years ago. I don't think you'll regret it. You will lose some drivability, however. If maintenance costs won't get you, the high miles from driving will when compared to a 911. Also, I'm a firm believer of at least trying the gated shifter before going on to F1! It's part of the Ferrari experience!

And if I remember correctly that's one hot looking 575!

Vizman,

Take your time and become knowledgeable as tthoang1 stated.

Getting into Ferrari is more about knowledge of the buying process than knowledge of the car. The latter comes with use. It's the former that's critical.

My advice, however, is to avoid the F1. Look for a 6 speed. The F1 is neat but can get expensive long term. 430 F1 very different story due to the maturation process.

Whoa, those wheels really update the look of the 575. Nice options too. Any other mods besides the wheels?

what an absolutely gorgeous car you have there. the 550/575 is among my favorite ferraris ever.

and to the original poster, i doubt you'll regret moving to either a 360 or an f430, BUT 3 pedals for life!
