70mpg Peugeot 308! Avail Fall 08
Peugeot 308 Diesel Hybrid Due in Fall 2008
By Mark Durham March 22, 2007 | 7:39:43 PMCategories: Diesel, Hybrids
The new C-Class Peugeot 308, which hits showrooms in early 2008, will be followed by a diesel hybrid version about six months later, says AutoExpress.
The hybrid 308 — which would be Peugeot's first diesel hybrid — will be powered by a 1.6-liter turbodiesel and an electric motor and battery pack, and equipped with stop-start functionality and regenerative braking. It's expected to get combined city-highway mileage of 69.1 mpg and keep CO2 emissions down to 90 grams per km — making it the most efficient car in its class — and will go up to 30 mph in zero-emissions mode. Could give the Prius and Civic Hybrid a run for their money.
HERE"S MY QUESTION - HOW CAN I GET ONE IN THE US???????

i doubt it'll give mileage that high. what woud make it so fuel efficient?
even a car like smart can't achieve mileage close to it.
also, US has a lot of requirements on safety which adds lots of weight.

It's 'just' a hybrid car. And if you drive it on the exact test route they take for these consumption statement, it will get 60mpg or so. But when you drive it daily like you probably will with this type of car, you will have to use the diesel engine more then the test does. Just like the Prius.
