My brother's barn shop under construction - day by day
My brother is an amateur woodworker and always wanted a shop. He also has a car obsession that we both share. We are fortunate enough to have a small piece of property so he started working on the foundation about 2 years ago and finally saved enough cash to buy the sticks and put it together.
The barn will be 32 x 72 feet with a 2 floors. The foundation and barn will be built to commercial standards, he really spared no expense on building materials.
The footer was done 2 years ago, i believe it is 24 inches wide by 12 inches deep with huge rebar, i think it was #00.
The first floor is a14 foot ceiling, second floor is a 10 foot ceiling and he ordered attic trusses for extra storage. His biggest concern was having poles in the way, especially, when moving around big wood and setting up a proper wood shop.
To overcome the need for a large steel beam, he ordered an engineered truss that is 2 feet tall and spaced them at 12 inches. The exterior walls are 2 x 8 at a standard 16 inches. The exterior sheathing and decking is advantech, i believe this is an epoxy infused fleck board that is considerably more meaty than your standard 7/16" OSB. The exterior sheathing is 5/8" advantech and the second floor decking is 3/4". This stuff is massive.
We are definitely an overkill family, but this structure is rediculous. I think the load on the second floor excees 150 lbs per square foot. The best thing, is absolutely no posts!!
The framing crew is great they recently did my office and my parents house, they are amish, extremely nice to work with, efficient and truly take pride in their work. The project started yesterday and i will try to upload some pics.

here is a pic of the second floor, stairs are not finished yet
this is only the second day of framing, the first day was crew of around 9 and today around 6. We did rent a telehandler which made placement of the floor trusses go quicker.

more pics up tomorrow, i forgot the camera
Advantech was used because he ended up getting a great deal by buying the entire semi, certainly it is overkill, however, compared to 7/16 in osb it is a great surface for licky sticky or stucco. I personally cannot imagine building with 7/16 osb, any little bit of water and it swells like a sponge
