Got a new camera. So here are some pictures that show a few updates. I built a better bench along the back wall -- now I can sit at it -- and I restored a drill press for it and also a vise -- and two other vises for other benches in the shop.

A reminder: it's a working garage:

And now I even have a fancy sign for it:

When restoring some of those older tools like the drill press & vice, did you use a bead blaster or similar tool to clean them off prior to painting or did you do it the old fashioned way: hand sanding? I had a great old machinist's vice that was my brothers that I sold some years ago and now I kick myself. It had a long mounting bolt that went from the bottom of the vice all the way through the bench. I must have lost my mind - wish I had it back. Great job on everything. Thanks for posting news here - it reminds me to go back over to GJ and catch up!

Thanks. I'm pretty low-tech. My go-to tool for getting old paint and rust off is an angle grinder with a wire wheel on it. Then, for paint, I clean with acetone and hit it with Rustoleum. With most tools, I know they're going to get beaten up with time. I don't want to be too worried over the paint chips and scuffs.

Angle grinder. One of the few tools that I don't have. Time to shop. Thanks Jack. A friend recently opened his own Porsche repair shop and they just got a bead blaster. It does a helluva job; that's why I asked. [I really didn't feel like lugging my old tools over there anyway.]

Thanks again.

Thanks!

I don't think I mentioned it here, but I set up a website for the garage -- now there's a place where the pertinent information is all in one place. You can take a bench-by-bench tour, if you want.

What an absolutely fantastic job.

I just can't imagine how long this took you to complete, however, it is well worth it!

One non-garage question: Do you sleep? Ever? Considering all that you get done, it must require 27 hours a day.

Thanks for the link. Bookmarked.
