POLL: How Much Will You Spend On Nice Cabinets?

I'm doing some research on what the current market is for Cabinet Systems in the Mid to high end market.

I am curious to see what you would pay for a Mid to High End Steel Cabinet system, (think Lista Quality cabinets), fully customizable, basically any color you want, and readily available, each component shipped assembled.

This poll is what would you be willing to pay for this Wall cabinet system?

Average wall systems being considered would be 12-15' in width, and include base and overhead cabinets, tall cabinets, integrated workbench and accessories (Drawer inserts, lighting, custom colors/decals, etc). Assume the system is fully customizable by choosing a combination of the available cabinet components.

If your requirements are more than 15', just multiply it by $X per 12'...so 18' would be $1.5x, 24' would be $2x, etc..

If you have recently purchased a cabinet system, please select the price range that best fits what you spent.

Thanks!

Whats so funny Dr_sharp?

I'm actually surprised more people have not said $20k+.

You spend $300-500k on 2-3 cars and you should easily spend a 1/10th of that on cabinetry.

I went with the gladiators from Complete Garage. I think I ended up spending around $3K or so for all the cabinets, which doesn't include the work bench or other junk that I did. It seems to be good stuff and it's all on wheels. At least the stuff that isn't mounted to the wall. It matches and they have quite a variety. You can even get a matching fridge. I wouldn't get wood again. Our last cabinets swelled and rotted over time. Unless your garage is climate/humidity controlled I would stick with metal.

I can't see really going overboard unless A) you have so much money that it doesn't matter or B) you work in your garage and it's a commercial operation that needs to withstand day to day use.

I just find it funny that 24 people would vote but no-one gave any comments until now. If I had the money, I wouldn't hesitate to spend that much

My thoughts exactly

Old Ikea book cases do the job for now....and not bad at that.

Well, it really depends on the application.

If you have a 5+ car garage, and the house its joined with is worth $2-3M+ you are probably not going to put $2500 MDF generic cabinets in.

Around here in the northeast, specifically Ny/ct/nj, $2-3M does not get you much in the big picture compared to what it would get you in NC.

So spending $10-20k+ on cabinets, $5-10k on flooring, $10-20k on lighting, etc etc, you can get into 6 figures pretty quick. And for the higher end car collectors who have facilities, its getting a lot less rare to see $500k-1M+ "garages."

My intent of this poll was to get responses from the mid to high end clients, who have $10k-20k+ to budget on their garage (which is actually a pretty big market) and see how much of their budget they are willing to spend on cabinets.

With companies like Vault, Lista, and the 1-2 other big names in the high end cabinet industry, it really does seem for 5-10k there is a huge gap in the market.

When you create a poll, don't make it anonymous next time. It always more fun to see who voted on what.

Sorry, I did not even see the anonymous option.

What was your option, the gladiators? I have never been too impressed with anything from Sears other than their professional line of tools.

They now distribute the UltMate cabinets, and its just another mdf and plastic based cabinet system that looks good, but does not hold up very well.

The cabinets intended to be voted on for the poll would be a Lista type cabinet, just more affordable. Lista makes some amazing products, but its tough for them to work on small projects as the product is just very expensive to manufacture in short runs for such projects. I am doing research to see what people are willing to spend, as I already know where the markets price gap is.

When you look at a steel based cabinet like Geneva (which is order only from Sears) its about 3-5k for a small wall unit, and the quality is a bit low for what you get, as well as the lack of depth in some of their cabinets. No color options, and not many choices in regards to accessories and hardware.

Interesting to see 9 people said 20k+...I hope they are being honest. If so, will any of you mind chiming in if you are looking for, or have already paid that amount for cabinets, which? THANKS

That's why you don't make it anonymous

Gladiator isn't made by Sears. I think it's manufactured by Whirlpool, but may be distributed by Sears. Like I said before, I got mine from the Complete Garage. Personally, not a fan of wood or MDF. Too hot and humid in Florida. The metal holds up much better. I wasn't really looking for any special colors. The black and silver worked fine for me.

To each his own. I was looking to upgrade my garage and make it more functional, not necessarily a show place. The wood cabinets were falling apart and we needed more storage space. As I'm sure you've already figured out, you can spend a small fortune on the garage. I like my car, but my garage doesn't need to look nicer than my living room
