whats faster? 997.1 turbo or 997.2 gt3

i know whats better around a track, but whats faster in a straight line? i ask because i saw a vid online that had a 2010 gt3 pulling on a first gen 997 turbo every time. is the 997.2 gt3 that much quicker than the 997.1 gt3?

i have both a 997.1 turbo and a .2 gt3. with my son at the wheel of the turbo, he cannot pull away in a straight line. i have not done a real long straight pull to test past 130, but i am blown away by the gt3's ability to stay with the turbo. (i have my son drive the turbo because i much prefer the gt3 these days.)

Stock for Stock the the GT3 is faster straight line.. I had both at the same time and my stock turbo wasnt as fast as my 997.1 GT3 let alone the 3.8L..

The 07 TT will feel faster b/c of the low end TQ and prolly be faster to the 1/4 mile if you are pulling from a stop. But if you are doing a rolling start then a GT3 will be ahead at the end of the 1/4 mile.

sorry, but both my turbo (07) and my gt3 (2010) are nowhere near stock. both have ecu programs and more. i so totally love the gt3 over the turbo for any kind of driving, track, street or canyon carving. so much more responsive to any inputs.

if i had a long trip, i would have to at least consider driving the turbo, but i probably would not.

I have to agree thie 2010 GT3 is the most unbelievable car i have ever driven, don't own a gen 1 turbo but i have driven plenty and it dosn't compare to the GT3 even in a straight line. The two cars can not be compared GT3 FTW

I don't know how the GT3 could stay with the TT in a straight line, look at the different torque curves. The difference in HP is minor but the torque difference is huge.

I agree with 10gt3 the car is very comfy contrary to what ppl have said in the past (i have not driven 997.1 gt3 so cant compare) it soaks up the bumps very well compared to similar performance cars.also the car does lack a lot of low end torque but once its reaches the higher rpms it just keeps going and it very responsive to steering input(especially after the alignment). btw 10gt3 what is your from camber setting? mine is -2.0,was wondering since you also use the car for street how is the tyre wear?
thanks

Something was wrong with your Turbo if it was getting outrun by a 997.1 GT3 in a straight line. There is no way a 997.1 GT3 should pull away from a 997.1 Turbo.

At all.......

I have to disagree... just a couple days ago I had a 997 turbo pull up next to me on the highway. We took off and he and I were very close each time. The owner said Wow! About 10 times and then said I had no idea those were that fast. Neither did I until then however I can confirm that the GT3 is as fast if not faster...

You are in a 2010 GT3 I have to assume since it was a couple of days ago and based on your sig, I'm talking about the 2009 and prior. Two levels of speed.

Did you actually beat the Turbo in your 2010, close doesn't tell us who won? Even if you did, beating a Turbo in a 2010 and beating one in a 3.6L GT3 are two different things.

My bad... Did not look at the .1

There was no winner or looser. He would pull up take off and I would chase him down. Each time I came up he would shut it down so no clear win loose however to both of our surprise the turbo did not run away from the 997.2

a 997.2 GT3 traps a little bit faster but its really a drivers race between that and the 997.1 Turbo with the Turbo being better from a stop and the GT3 from a roll. Also you have to be better with your shifting in a GT3 as far as staying in the powerband.

I agree with that Germeezy, the GT3's are tough to keep in the maximum powerband at least the 996 and 997.1 have been. I haven't been able to drive a 997.2 yet.

There must be something seriously wrong with your 997.1 Turbo if it is slower than a stock 997.1 GT3 in a straight line. The torque difference is huge, you can really tell that going uphill. The 997.2 Gt3 should be very close to 997.1 Turbo in straight line though.
