Drive DAYTONA DE (really!) Dec 8-9
Just a friendly FYI,
Our local Audi Chapter (Ohio Valley) has convinced DAYTONA
that they should allow the club to put on
the first DE ever at that track!
http://ohio.audiclubna.org/events_cal.html
This is the first and only opportunity to run the high banks (if you're not
a pro or hold a comp license)
Sceduled for December 8 and 9 (instructors also run on the 7th with
instruction with PROS like David Roush, Mike Galatti, Tommy Byrne, Mark Sandridge, etc)
We may have / can arrange / car transports booked to go down for a reasonable fee - if you prefer to "fly in, arrive and drive"
Should be awesome - hope to see you there
Deetz
Can you say "Oh my!"

Not to burst your bubble but they have already had DE events at Daytona including past weekend: http://www.pcadaytonarace.com/faq.html I highly recommend it to you and everyone else, it's a great track and it draws some great people/cars.

Ahhhh- who cares who was first on the schedule, but not to burst your bubble, when the race would not fill up the event - they decided to add the DE.
But anyways - should be a hoot to run there, eh?

Swatdoc,
Do you have a better copy of that picture, it's my car last weekend. I'm still waiting for my pictures from Colortech which will take a couple of weeks.
For those of you that are considering Daytona, it is absolute fear the first few times you go thru the banking at 150+ mph. The track may look smooth, but to me it was almost as rough as turn one at Sebring, and eventhough the car doesn't go anywhere, it sure hoppes sideways and drifts a lot. I don't think I will go there with the Audi Club, since I really don't want to instruct at this track. I already have problems getting car sick when I instruct lately, and to sit in this "bowl" for what seems a very longgg time as a passenger, just does not attrackt me

Erik,
I have the original "raw" image, if you would like it PM me. I reduced it to upload it, I'll e-mail you a full size copy.
I agree with you, from my past experiences at Daytona. The first time you drive on the high banks it is a little scary, but once the car settles (or was the me settling) it's like "cracking the whip" as a kid and a BLAST!
Again, I recommend this event to any and all that can attend.
Edit: I almost forgot, important to remember to apply slight, gentle wheel pressure to the left as you are coming off the banks as the car will attempt to pull to the right (into the wall) as you are entering the straight.

Daytona
I usually instruct at all the other Florida tracks and don't want to rain on anyones parade, but last weekend I saw 8200 RPM in 6th gear (997 GT3) before braking for turn one. I have to agree with Eric, this track is way too hairy for me to get in the pasenger seat with anyone, specially a student. On second thought I would'nt mind doing so with a Pro like Randy Pobst or Wolf Hensler, but would probably need a change of underwear after.
