to clarify, it's for my 3yr old son who's about 35lbs. i want to install the LATCH system on the passenger seat. as for the car seat, i'm leaning towards the recaro sport young (or something like that). thanks.

Ff the front seat is underweight, the airbag's should shut off automatically, no??

You can use pretty much any child seat using the seatbelts

that's what i thought. the sensors should take care of it, per the manual. but dealer says i still need the key disable option 'cos he's too light for the sensors to detect. confused the heck out of me.

I put my briefcase with a computor on the seat and its activated off. Try putting something near 20 lbs or less on the seat and see if the light is turned on. if its on then no need to pay the 300 bucks

i think you're right. and i could probably just use the seat belts but i'd rather fit it with the LATCH system and also use the teather(sp?) hook in the back. it's just for my peace of mind that i don't mind shelling out 300 for it. was wondering how quick/easy of a diy to retrofit it with the LATCH system.

Same with me I have a 3 and 6 year old and safety is my biggest concern. The belts works just as good if connected correctly. You can go to any fire station and they are more then willing to make sure your seat is properly fited correctly.

I have the Recaro seat in mine, and my 32lb'er in it still keeps the airbag light showing "off".

I have a four-year old. I take delivery in Dec., but the parts you mention are already sitting at my dealer for installation as soon as the car arrives.

Even if the deactivator is in use only for a year or two, I didn't hesitate on ordering it. Also, IMO, the LATCH system offers superior protection, so I plan to use it as long as my daughter is physically comfortable in a baby seat.
