997 GT3 oil level - Cup car part?

Posted this on Rennlist - thought I'd try here as well (and, yes, thanks, I know it's a dry sump tank forward of the engine - it was on my 993 too, and THAT had a dipstick - long, but it worked fine):

Someone told me that there is a 997 cup car part that you can use to replace the oil fill tube on the GT3/RS that allows the use of an actual dipstick vs that @#$&%*!@# electronic sensor. Can anyone verify or does anyone know the part number(s)?

I'm sick and tired of trying to rely on that stupid gauge which gives me a different reading every time.....no matter how long I wait or anything else....I don't trust it. I'd love to have a plain old mechanical oil dip stick.

the cup cars i have worked with still used an electronic sensor but had a level display box mounted in the quarter or rear window. just a box with a few led's stating current oil level, adequit, low or high. I dont believe any 996 or 997 dry sump Porsche engine has a dip stick.

On the regular 997 carrera's we race we do away with the electronic sensor and add the 996 carrera dipstick/tube.

997 GT3/ RS Street cars have the electronic sensor for the gauge. Its also wired into the wiring harness itself.

996 and 997Cup cars do not have this provision built (not in harness) into them thats why they run the dip stick. The thermostat for the cup car also has a different opening temperature than the street car.

I have never tried using a cup car (dipstick) on a street car but would imagine that you could ... Since we have a few 997GT3's and about half a dozen cup cars in the shop now I will check this out and let you know.

Feel free to call me if you have any questions..

Here is input I received from the CUP CAR forum over on Rennlist:

Oil Dipstick 996.207.231.94
Oil Filling Tube 996.207.016.70
Closure Cap 996.107.035.50
O-Ring 999.707.285.41
Retaining Clamp 996.207.233.71
Guide Tube for Oil Dipstick 996.207.031.90

Looks like all the right parts.....but will they fit? Seems to me they should.

I did it and I think it was about $37.00 in parts.
