Would you pay 50% over MSRP for a Ford Mustang?

The car is desirable to many and sells over sticker because:
- regardless of its power to weight ratio, it's a cheap entry to the 500hp club
- the blower.. the fact that it has one, and the sound it makes.. both add character
- hp potential.. the stock bottom end is good up to 800 hp
- it's got the muscle car look
- the Mustang V8s signature (and patented) sound is pretty nice
- the Shelby influence
Is it worth $10 - 25K over? No, of course not. $5K over for the fist few months I can understand, but Ford should produce enough so people can buy them for list (but not over produce).
In reality, a loaded GT500 coupe should list for no more than $40K.. $10K over a loaded Mustang GT. At that price, it would be hard to knock it.

Not!
I previously owned a 03' Cobra with every mod avail. +500RWHP
It had independent rear suspension and weighed in at <3500lbs.
The GT 500 is a pig at almost 2 tons and a straight rear axle,
I feel Ford went backwards and is asking crazy money for less performance.
Besides, look at what you can get in way of performance with the
Porsche Line for that kind of money.

In a way yes, but it makes it much better for launching in drag racing.
The Ford IRS on the Cobra was never really embraced by their target market since most Mustang/Cobra buyers are more into straightline speed than handling.
For that car going back to the solid rear axle was actually a good move since pretty much everyone who buys one wants to go fast in a straight line.
I also would not say it "kills" its handling potential. I used to road race Mustangs in the early '90s and with the right mods (Panhard Bar, Torque Arm, etc.) they could be very fast. Don't get me wrong I'll take an IRS car on a road course any day but there is still much potential in those old cars. Just look at NASA's American Iron, or any A-Sedan car.
