Adam,
I bought your 360 from GP Imports....
Like I told you over at F Chat... the 997 GT3 is the way to go... The Turbo is a wonderfull car but not the same experience.
If you want to modd it..,, Jeff Gamroth at Rothsport just did an almost straight pipe exhaust. Not sure of the HP gain but he will know. Also has a slightly less agressive exhaust that I am going to do next month. The car sounds amazing...
You better step up on the GT3 they are going to be hard to come by for the next couple of years. They are one of those once in every 10 year cars that turns out just right.
Good luck

I didn't realize you still had a GT3! Your opinion is really valued as I know you are a p-car guy since forever!
I will try to phone tomorrow and see if the GT3 is still available. It is a non-PCCB car (which I think is the only thing I don't like.)
I like the idea that if I don't like it, I can always get a 997TT pretty readily, and the GT3's have been VERY hard to come by.
I will let you know what they say!
Thanks to everyone for their opinions. I will keep people posted!

PCCB"s are nice but not a deal killer...You won't regret owning that car. You might even want to keep it....
Of all the stuff I drive. The purist in me loves the 964 RS... But when I break it down into a car that I can drive very fast, stop on a dime and the power is allways there and ready to roll. The GT3 is the best road car every made. The handeling is secong to my Cup car. The thing is amazing....
Buy that thing. Then rip down to Salem and we can take a run... Nevery ran side by side with another GT3....
Good luck...

I'd say if you were going to track one of them and have the skill, get the 996 GT3 put headers exhaust and ECU and maybe some motons and you can go just as fast or faster than the 997 GT3. Performance per dollar, the 996 GT3 is the best of the bunch you mentioned. But there is no TC, PSM or the like so you had better know what you're doing.
Any other scenario I'd go with the 997 GT3 then the 997 TT, simply because you'll lose your hat in a couple years with the TT if the trend stays the same. But if you just want an eye popper, highway cruiser, the 997 TT with some nice wheels is the way to go (if you have extra hats).

Taking the proverbial bath on resale is certainly something to consider. The GT3 in 996 and 997 form seem to be VERY good. Vs the TT.
But for modding, where do I go with the GT3? If I want more power, or do just individualize the car, am I stuck with just wheels and exhaust?

increasing hp for GT3 is small gain for lots of money.

Based on what? I've seen the times of two pros at the same track on similar days, both being stock, and the 996 GT3 was only about 1.5 seconds behind the 997 GT3, I think motons would make up that difference. This is IMO.

Adam,
If you like cornering, 997 GT3. If you like torque, 997tt. Personally, since you have a Cayman S and not a track fiend, the 997tt seems to fill a niche.
I'm not a big fan of anything 996. The Boxster-ish front end kills the deal for me.
Good luck with your decision.

He's serious...

That's not a deal killer, I know a lot of guys including myself who have converted the PCCB rotors to steels for better pad selection on the track.

I had a 996 TT, but traded it in after I figured out I enjoyed driving my M3 LTW more. Power is nice, but it isn't everything. TT is an appliance for speed and lacks excitement IMO. I haven't driven the 997TT so I can't comment.
I've driven the Cayman S a few times and it's a really great car. Let's just say Porsche is smart to keep the 911s more powerful. If you're tall (6"2+) like I am, then you might have trouble getting really comfortable in the Cayman. You can't push the seat back as far because of the rear firewall and I end up feeling just a little bit cramped whereas the 911 fits me like a glove.
The GT3 is an awesome car. If carving corners if your thing then get the GT3. If you want better comfort and do mostly highway driving and prefer low-end torque then get the TT. I think the GT3 is more of a driver's car. Only you can decide which is best for you. Since you seem to love the Cayman so much, the GT3 is probably the right car for you between the TT and GT3.

Get the 997 Gt3. You can always mod the 996tt if you want gobs of power.
The 997GT3 is the best of all that you have mentioned. Its a special car. Plus its sooo much easier to find a TT if you think you made a bad choice. Try finding a 997 GT3. Not so easy. And its easy to sell a 7 Gt3 without taking a bath.
