Comparison ?'s 997 GT3 VS. 997TT VS. 996GT3 VS. CAYMAN S
Ok not to sound like a total newb here, but I have been rapidly adding to my Porsche collection and have a question you guys might be able to help me with.
I bought a 996TT some time ago and love the car. Beautiful, fun to drive, but a bit heavy overall in terms of feel.
Ordered a 997TT sometime ago waiting delivery.
Bought a Cayman S a few weeks ago and LOVE the car. Very stunning to drive, light feel, very tossable, nice machine.
Now comes the dilemma. Dealer called and offered me a 997 GT3 also in Carrera White as is my 997TT order, as well as they have a 250 mile 996 GT3 coming in next week. I drove the 997 GT3 and I am seriously thinking about taking it over the 997TT. I thought it was simply brilliant in nearly everyway. Doesn't have the gutteral smack in the head pull like the TT, but the NA motor REALLY pulls like a dream. The steering is light, the sound sweet etc. etc.
What does the group think? I was planning to get rid of the 996TT when the 997TT came in, but now I am thinking to get the 997 GT3 instead. OR should I wait another week, risk the 997 GT3 going away to another client willing to ish or get off the pot, then drive the 996 GT3 next week? Obviously there is some significant price savings to the 996 GT3 an the 997 GT3 vs. the 997TT.
Thanks in advance for the help!

need to decide what you are looking for and what the car will be used for.
I have driven and instructed in all of the above cars.
the 996GT3 is not in the same league as the 997 choices (relax 996GT3 owners just my opinion)
So if the reason is not the money savings that leaves you the choice between the two 997 versions.
Both awesome cars but with different purposes.
If mostly going to be a DD one would usually go with the TT. If more that one or two track days a year are in the cars future or if you are a real track driving kind a guy the GT3 is for you.
The great thing is both of these cars are so capable they are both great on street or track, so choice still is up to you.

I thought the Cayman to be the DD, and the other to be a track, dry day, fun type car. I originally thought the 997TT was the latest and greatest, but it seemed to lack some of the Ish eating grins that I had in the GT3 997 during the test drive.

I'd say if you were going to track one of them and have the skill, get the 996 GT3 put headers exhaust and ECU and maybe some motons and you can go just as fast or faster than the 997 GT3. Performance per dollar, the 996 GT3 is the best of the bunch you mentioned. But there is no TC, PSM or the like so you had better know what you're doing.
Any other scenario I'd go with the 997 GT3 then the 997 TT, simply because you'll lose your hat in a couple years with the TT if the trend stays the same. But if you just want an eye popper, highway cruiser, the 997 TT with some nice wheels is the way to go (if you have extra hats).

Taking the proverbial bath on resale is certainly something to consider. The GT3 in 996 and 997 form seem to be VERY good. Vs the TT.
But for modding, where do I go with the GT3? If I want more power, or do just individualize the car, am I stuck with just wheels and exhaust?

I've driven everything you are comparing and my favorite is the 997 GT3. If you want more of a track car that would be my choice. If you want more of a street car then 997 TT would be my choice.

Get the 997 Gt3. You can always mod the 996tt if you want gobs of power.
The 997GT3 is the best of all that you have mentioned. Its a special car. Plus its sooo much easier to find a TT if you think you made a bad choice. Try finding a 997 GT3. Not so easy. And its easy to sell a 7 Gt3 without taking a bath.

Adam,
I bought your 360 from GP Imports....
Like I told you over at F Chat... the 997 GT3 is the way to go... The Turbo is a wonderfull car but not the same experience.
If you want to modd it..,, Jeff Gamroth at Rothsport just did an almost straight pipe exhaust. Not sure of the HP gain but he will know. Also has a slightly less agressive exhaust that I am going to do next month. The car sounds amazing...
You better step up on the GT3 they are going to be hard to come by for the next couple of years. They are one of those once in every 10 year cars that turns out just right.
Good luck

I would go 997 GT3
If you want to mod the 996 GT3 -- Manthey... but for the added expense I would go with the 997 GT3.
FWIW I have a 996 GT3 and love it... the only thing keeping me from the 997 GT3 is wife, new baby, 529 plan, etc etc...
Nice dilemma you have yourself in
