997 GT2 crash in the Philippines
#32
That was on the North Highway which is a very straight highway, its actually the 2nd best road we have here. Wide and very smooth lanes. So its very hard to analyze what happened unless the driver himself tells the real story.
As for damages, I noticed the steel barrier on the first picture was pushed back, those are thick barriers! Aside from front end damages, heard that the passenger door moved back a few cm.
As like most sports/exotic cars here, that was not insured but the owner is a gold dealer so I dont think he has a problem with repairing it or getting a replacement.
Its amazing how little exotics we here over here and we already had a couple of wrecked ones, we also had one of the very first 997 Turbo totalled when it first came out and we had an F430 burn to the ground
I guess driver education/skills has got to improve and maybe the dealerships should have more driving clinics arranged. We didn't have 500hp till just recently and now they are finding their way onto guys that can buy it but not much experience with that kind of serious power. Top that with new wide smooth highways....
Bottom line, gotta respect the POWER!
Drive safe everyone!

It's not because it can't be insured. But to insure a, let's say, 997TT. Which cost about US$240,000 here. The premium would be US$12,500 a year. Owners feel that it's not worth it since most of them only drive it on weekends. And no one in his right mind here would steal an exotic.

You make it sound like exotics come to our country to die.

was told there was some bit of oil or something in the road, because a few minutes after the accident another car also spun on the same area! and the car wasnt really going that fast according to the source!

Another reason is Comprehensive insurance (full cover) is not really required to register a car, there are small shady insurance companies usually connected with the employees or the boss in the Land Transportation Office where one would only need a Third Party Liability cover (TPL) cost less than $100.00.
As for other exotics, Ferrari, Lamborghini's and etc. Insurance companies would also be apprehensive because of the lack of service, parts for these cars. Insurance companies work with a blue book based on the prices of automobiles from new and compute depreciation every year to come up with the vehicles present value and from there your annual premium. Since most of these exotics are grey market imports and most are pre owned it would be hard for them to asses a fair amount for repairs if ever they get in to accidents. But of course you could always go to the insurance companies and say "this is a $100k car i want it insured only up to $30k"
Bottom line is most have the mentality of this is basically a weekend car, a car i use once a week or even once every two weeks so no need really for an added expense. But with the addition of new autobhan like highways here and the way enthusiast push their cars on fun runs now a days i think it would be wiser to insure. 5 - 10 years ago most of these cars will only be for cruising the city on sundays!

how about the guy who had his f430 burn in front of him... he also didnt have insurance.
why insure the car for $10k - $20k annually.. when u can just buy another exotic....
