Finally...RS on the track

GT3Ranger-
The track was refurbished about 2000, with Turn 10, the site of many accidents, widened and re-cambered. Then 2 other tracks were built on the same site - one we use as instructors for Bill Scott racing to train feds to drive at speed, do J turns, shoot from cars, etc. They are hopeless...
It is a great 'technical track', but without the care and layout of some other great tracks such as Watkins Glen, VIR, Mid-Ohio, Road Atlanta, Road America, etc. - I used to Club race as well, but in a cup car back in the late 90s.
That weekend, I must admit that it was in bad shape - washboard at turn 1 (hairpin at end of long straight) and beat-up in the carousel (turns 6,7 bad).
My worst experience that weekend, besides going off track to miss a stopped car, was to see one of the other instructors going down the chute (turn #4) sideways in a GT3, and then climb up a tire wall on the right side of that turn with the wheels coming off the car. I can post photos if there is interest.

I usually drive on the main circuit (2.0 miles). We train federal personnel, usually on the Jefferson circuit (about 1.2. miles), and there is the new (2004) Shenandoah circuit (2.2. miles) = 3 tracks.
Thanks - Gerry

Here are some phots of the GT3 crash at turn 4 of the main Summit Point track. This is the "chute", which requires acceleration through the turn. In club racing, usually we end up off the end of the chute without hitting a barrier.
The folks at Race Day Photo have a great montage of this unfortunate accident. The instructor is a gifted and well known P racer, and anything might have happened, including mechnical failure on the car - it went off the chute to the right, which is very unusual. It looks like the car got sideways ini the chute, then went off and hit the tire barrier, thankfully not going any higher.
