My RS VS M6
#136
Hi Ranger,
If this video doesn't say it all about the 996 GT3 then I don't know what does.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=86fV6...eature=related
I have no doubt based on my experience and what I have provided you with here that the 6GT3/7GT3/RS would definately top the M6. I wouldn't have believed it myself if I didn't experience it which was confirimed by those vids.
Winter is around the corner so I'll see what we can do about a re-run with video if he's up to it again but he may have already 'winterized' his car. We may have to wait til spring and I would gladly race him again.
Cheers

That's not a stock M5. Let's keep it stock vs stock. BTW, I contacted that fellow about the re-run with video and he's already dropped the collision insurance on his car for the winter storage. We'll wait til next spring.
What are the 1/4 mile numbers on the M6? Give me all the best numbers ever recorded by a magazine.

Check out these numbers on the 'base' stock 996 GT3:

0-100 9.1
1/4 mile 12.07

I truly do not know performance figures of the M6. I will tell you that personally I do not place much weight on the mag. numbers. Those are never figures that regular Joe Blow can reproduce.
I know from first hand knowledge what happens. A brief story:
A good friend who is co-manager of an IMSA GT racing team was asked to volunteer his GT3 to one of the US car mag for testing against other cars.
The car came back totally demolished. Clutch shot, shocks blown, 3 out of 4 wheels bent. Major legal issues after that.
Locally no GT3/RS has run a 12.00 sec 1/4 mile.
On the video, the M5 Touring weighs 1,200 lbs more than the GT3, therefore a few extra ponies is no big deal.
Weight : bhp ratio for the GT3 is 7.6 lbs per bhp and the M5 is 8.2 lbs per bhp.
Another point I asked before was regarding the 996 GT3 vs. F430.
Both are very comparable in weight but the F430 has 100 bhp more than the 6 GT3. Since you like to qoute the numbers, how does this compute.
The F430 should outpower the GT3. Even with mods the GT3 can not even come close to gaining 100 hp. I know because my GT3 is very modded and the best I have achieved is 460 bhp.
As aside, does this individual with the M6 fully fluent with the multiple variations of the power settings?
Good luck and best regards,
Ranger

Ranger,
If we forget about the car mags, can we at least agree that the manufacturer's numbers are more conservative and "real world"? That being said, I believe the GT3's numbers still are better than the M6s.
I can't explain the weight/hp thing in those videos but Look at the Motortrend article too on the Stradale vs the 6GT3. You'll see that eventhough the F car weighs less and has 45 more HP it still gets whipped in all accelaration numbers. Remember, everything is relative if you're going to argue mag testing being unreliable.
Anyways, I know what I witnessed with my own eyes. And, yes, he is a very experienced and proud M6 owner so he did know what he was doing. One other thing I forgot to mention is that he raced a neighbour's modified TT this summer and both parties agreed the M6 got smoked. I raced my GT3 against that same TT and lost but was told not by as much. The TT guy told me he had no doubts too that I would be able to beat the M6 and that's how we got into that race. He was right.
I don't know what else to tell you. It's not important anyways.
Cheers

See attached for the Car&Driver road test for the M6 vs GT3 RS.
Quarter mile times are the same, but the M6 will slowly walk the GT3 RS up to 150 mph:
0-150 GT3 RS = 22.2 sec
0-150 M6 = 19.5 sec
1/4 mile GT3 RS = 12.4 @ 116 mph
1/4 mile M6 = 12.4 @ 121 mph

This thread makes me laugh. Why is everyone contiunously arguing with Ranger?? The guy is obviously right. He has both cars. Not only 1 GT3, but TWO! I don't think he is being biased if he owns all of these cars. He also obviously stating from personal experience.
