Not sure about that one. I had Synergy Racing at VIR install my 4 ply tear offs while they were doing other work on my car. These tear offs can be cleaned with a lexan windshield cleaner (to help prevent yellowing) and be used for several months before they need to be peeled off (depending on usage and conditions, of course)

Synergy told me that in order to keep from having to re-clean the windshield perfectly every time I replace stacks, I should replace the 4 ply stack as soon as I peel off my 3rd layer of protection.

The only downside I can tell is you can get a little bit of a "rainbow effect" distortion through the windshield ONLY if you're wearing polarized sunglasses and the sunlight hits it at the correct angle. All of my sunglasses are polarized so I guess I'm going to have to buy me a few new pairs.

I am using 3 layer tear offs with great results. Contact Doug at RaceTechnik in Mesa AZ for vendor.
They have a tendency to hold air bubbles so make sure you get a good installer.

Porsche paint and glass is ridiculously soft.

My dealer told me $525 to replace the windshield, if I recall correctly. If/when I do get it replaced, I would definitely be interested in the tear away film. That sounds like a great idea. Please post all the details you can.

Guys,

I'm a dealer for the Racing Optics film (Pro Tint), and it is the real deal. It is used by most of Nascar and also other race cars such as Cup cars. I use it on all of my cars. You can buy it in single double and quad layers.

You can install it yourself, and I can send instructions along with the tools and spray to install it. I am also available on the phone to help you do it.

PM me if you are interested in purchasing this product.

It really works, and is especially helpful for the track rats.

Stephen, what would it cost for the 3 layer option, self install, and how long would they last?

FWIW, Madico makes a clear windshield protective film. I found the tear off deteriate with UV exposure and scratches with the windshield wipers. If your car street and track the Madico product is far superior.

We have a Madico dealer here! I'll pay him a visit and see if he can get some.

Thumbs up

You guys can also try this company out of San Diego: MI Shield
http://www.mishield.com/

They were one of the 1st companies I saw do custom clear bras for cars years ago. Now, they make custom cut windshield protection, custom cut to fit your windshield. You won't be able to see the line, like you do on 4-ply tearoffs, and also, the windshield protection acts as a repellent to rain, so its like having a never-ending amount of Rain-X on the windshield. The few cars which I've seen have this installed, looks very nice, and almost invisible.
