At least here in Europe, the regulations for side windows and rear windshield are different than the front one. Generally, lexan or thin glass are permitted for all but the front one. There are special Lexan producers with TUV approval in Germany for example who produce side and and rear windshields. These have a special stamp. They differ from non approved ones in the sense that they are tested for breaking/cutting in case of emergency by experts. I'm afraid there isn't much that can be done for the front windshield and keep it road legal.

I can get windshield tear-offs, which are used in Nascar and also on Cup cars. My brand is the real deal (not the cheap knock-offs) and it comes in single, two, and four layer applications. I can send them to you with insctructions to install and the necessary tools.

I use them on all of my cars and never haver cracks, stars, bullets on the glass. They allow you to keep your factory installed glass, and it is best to install them on a new car, or on one where the glass was just replaced.

PM me if you are interested in this product.

It is especially nice for track use, but also helpful in colder climates where they sand the roads in the winter.

For Porsche I can get 996/997, 993, 964, 944, 914, and Carrera GT applications. The older Porsches are easy to do because they usually have pretty flat glass.

It also provides UV protection.
