Suspension BOING and CLUNK Question

I've had my GT3 for a week now. I absolutely love the car. The best car I've ever owned, bar none.

I do have one question though... and it is not a veiled complaint! I promise.

It's regarding front suspension noise. I don't mind the fact that it goes "BOING" every time I maneuver in a parking lot. Also, I don't mind the fact that the front suspension goes "CLUNK" ever time I go over bumps. All I really want to know is, is the amount of CLUNK and BOING I am hearing normal? Or is something amiss with my suspension?

I have heard others say that they get an *occassional* "BOING". But, I ALWAYS get a BOING when I maneuver in a parking lot. Is it possible to have too much BOING? (i.e., does it mean something is amiss?)

I also always get a CLUNK when driving over bumps. So, it's a frequency thing. Do I have too much BOING and CLUNK? Or is my experience normal?

Again, I don't mind the BOING and CLUNK. I'm a race car driver. I'm used to lots of BOING, CLANK, CLUNK, BZZZZ, GRUNCH, etc type noises. But, not in my street car. So, I just wanna make sure I'm not about to experience a catastrophic suspension failure and end up in a gravel pit...

Otherwise the BOING and CLUNK is just fine as it is... call it "character" or "personality".

Are you doing autoX in the pkg lot? No suspension should make boing or clunk at 5mph me think.

Well, mine does BOING at low speed in parking lot maneuvers (not auto-x, more like entering the garage, backing out of the garage, etc.).

The CLUNK is at higher speeds. Normal street driving speeds.

I've heard others have the BOING, although from what I read, it was an occassional thing. My BOING is all the time at low speed, but never at speeds say above 5 mph.

Sounds like the spring is about to shoot right thru the fender.
Or a control arm is loose?
Back to the dealer she goes.

Stop driving over bumps!?

Well, as long as it is normal, I actually like it. This car has so much personality, without actually being annoying. It is the most amazing freaking thing. It's like Posche said, let's build a car that your average SCCA/NASA/PCA/etc club racer will want to drive to work every day. It must handle like a race car; it must sound like a race car (only quieter for daily use); it must make sublte, not too loud racecar noises (BOING, CLUNK); it must rev damn near infinity; it must have a minimalist interior; and the stereo can't be good enough to encourage the driver to use it when he should be listening to the engine's symphony.

Ok. Maybe I'm some kind of a freak. But I love everying about this car. It is simply friggin amazing. It's like they read my mind and built the car exactly to my specifications.

The GT3 has it more than the GT2, pretty normal.

also I have read of the delivery spring procters being left on the springs. These are green plastic packing inserts made from a hard foamlike plastic. Have a look at your springs and see if you still have those in place.

I do get boing occasionally, but no clunk, sounds like you may have something a little odd going on.

You need to remove the front wheels to see if the spacers are there. It's hard to see the south end of the spring where these things hide. I had one still in my front pass. side spring a did not realize it for 1000 miles!!

squeeks, squeels, boings, clings, clanks, are normal on the GT3.

You just don't want to hear the dreaded KLANNNG! When you hear that it's major.

Personally, I can't stand these wierd noises esp driving on the street in normal traffic. Very annoying. On the track, you usually can't hear these noises with helmut and the engines revving.

The last time I heard a KLANNNG was I ran over a big **** rock in the middle of the road. Car started fish tailing a mile later and went off the road. Later I discovered a cracked control arm.

You definitely don't want to hear the dreaded KLANNNG!

And don't drive on the morning after first rain in the mountains either. Lots of loose rocks on the road.

The "boing" can be fixed with some lube at the appropriate spot (spring/perch contact point) and a "clunk" is not normal, imho. At least my Gt3 does not make these noises. Limited slip grinding noise when making slow speed tight turns and the engine "clacking" sound on cold startup -- now that's normal.

A "clunk" noise when going over bumps is often a loose sway bar link. (A very minor thing.)

Not sure about the "boing".
