Tracking GT3: How do you guys do it?
#31
Rockitman/Racer63,
I know where you guys are coming from (ok ,mine cost a little less, but it's still hard to risk a 90K car too). The thought of hitting the wall or breaking down 5hrs away scared the sh-t out of me. Then my brother talked me into doing the Porsche Driving Experience with him last year. You drive their cars and are tought by the best, i.e. Dave Murray, etc. when I arrived I was skeptical, when I left I was hooked. I have since done some minor mods to my car and have done several track days. I love it, it is the most exiting thing you can do with your clothes on . I would recommend the PCA events, they are the best run and safest. Some of the other orgs tend to be a real mixed bag and are run looser. Don't pass it up, you won't regret it!

No one will wreck their GT3s at the racetrack when you start DE. If wrecks happen its usually in "WHITE" and its when you think you are good when you have learned a little and are "cocky".
Cockiness and red mist usually wreck cars and knucklehead moves and oil down or coolant down on the track.
One thing on your preciuos cars that is always DOOMED no matter what is the windshield.................all cars at the track get sandblasted. I am on my 5th winshield on the 993RS.
Everything is TALK until the bull**** stops and you are FLAT OUT WIDEOPEN at the racetrack.
Have a great day

Now, you could put it down to luck or the judicious use of my Applicator but I controlled the slide and brought the car back onto the right side of the road.
I strongly beleive that this is due to me spending a lot of time with my car in an enviroment which has allowed me to learn, understand and ultimatley control it so that when the unexpected happens you are better prepaired to deal with the situation
Bottom line. Fit a full harness and at least half a cage. Get some GOOD driver training. Take the car to the track and learn about you and your car. Enjoy.
