A Beautiful Red 997 GT3
Today a new customer came by with his beautiful Porsche 997 GT3 in red. The car is absolutely amazing and only has 3000 miles on it. The customer was interested in a better intake system and doing an upgraded exhaust. Looks like we might have a new project car on our hands. I had to take a couple of snaps to show how amazing the red color looks.

So we are going to be working with this customer on some performance parts. We found out that the 996TT and 997GT3 front half of the airbox is the same. So we modified one and added the K&N air filter to give it a more volumous airflow. Dyno tests coming soon. Since this fitment is the same, we thought about taking our existing carbon fiber air intake for the 996TT, and modifying it as a GT3 kit.

The GT3 utilizes the intake scoops on the rear deck lid to pressurize the air going into the intake box at velocity to increase hp. I would think cutting off the face of the airbox cover cancels this effect, in addition to drawing in hot air from the motor.

I dont think pressurized is the word you were looking for. Yes the scoops bring in air to the airbox. Will you suck in hot air, temp difference without the cover is about 2F degrees. But you are able to get a larger volume of air flow in. When the car is moving you are getting cooler air anyways. I think some data testing needs to be done

I could be wrong, that's what I got from the Porsche docs. I consider anything over ambient barometric pressure, even if it's 0.50 of a PSI to be pressurized. An intake will always ingest more air with an airbox with slight pressurization than an open airbox at ambient pressure (0.0 psi)

Very nice. I know I'm bucking the trend, but the red doesn't do much for me. That said, any GT3 is special. So special that I barely even see the color. I just want one. And I think the airbox change is very cool, and intuitively looks like it would be 'pressurized' via some ram effect the way it is opened and positioned against the intakes on the lid. Nice to find out I'm actually right now and then. I suspect it won't make much power difference, but I suspect the dyno will find a bit of single-digit something from it.
