Sebring Update GMG 1st and 4th in qualifying !!!! Speed GT

Just in:

GMG qualifies 1st and 4th at Sebring.

The Stoptech/GMG Porsche 997 WC-Gt3 Cup driven by Dino Crescentini qualified 1st in todays session and team mate James Sofronas in the GMG 997WC-GT3 Cup qualified 4th. Bill Ziegler in his first Speed GT race weekend qualified his Swisher/GMG 997 WC-GT3 Cup in 17th.

Qualifying for Round One of the SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Championship will begin at 11:55 a.m. (EDT).

Weather in Sebring is 75F with cloudy skies, not rain clouds though, it is a beautiful day in central Florida.

The World Challenge qualifying lap record at Sebring is a 2:07.679 (104.324 mph), set by Doug Peterson driving a Corvette in 2007.

The fastest practice time yesterday came from No. 30 Eric Curran, who entered a 2:10.320 (102.210 mph).

The qualifying procedure has undergone an exciting change this year in World Challenge.

Following the TC and GT qualifying sessions, the polesitter for each class will flip a coin and call it in the air. If the driver calls it correctly, he keeps the pole, if he is incorrect...the top five will invert!

The fastest qualifier will still keep points for pole however. The qualifying point structure has been increased this season. Polesitter now earns 15 points. Then 12 points for second, nine points for third, six points for fourth and three points for fifth.

Randy Pobst fans, we're sorry to report that No. 1 has called it a week and will not be returning to World Challenge competition at Sebring. There are still a couple of bugs to work out with the new Volvo.

We've also received word that the No. 7 Lamborghini driven by Dan Pastorini has also elected to remove themselves from competition at Sebring.
