I've got both and my thoughts are here on that exact subject:

In a nutshell they're both fantastic cars but at this point I do not believe it's worth spending all the extra on the newer one unless money is no object.

Buy a 962 - they make better track cars.
I like the 996 GT3 better than the 997 GT3RS that I have now. I liked the way they had no electronic life-saving gadgets, and the front end 'nibbled' the road as you drove them. And I guess in the head-to-head comparison in the latest issue of Excellence, they came to the same conclusion.
The 2010 is not worth it, unless you like to burn money.
