First Porsche, 07 GT3 or 10 GT3?
This will be my first 911. I see the resale of the 07s being a once in a lifetime opportunity. I see the 2010 GT3 as a $40K+ difference. I totally acknowledge the technology advances but in the end would they really be appreciated by a new 911 owner?
I'm planning on using the car on the track and as an occasional car.
Thanks in advance

2010 if you have the means
2007 if you do not (or have it and do not want to part with it)
there is nothing better about the 07 except for the price
only you can decide
I am sure people will tell you that the GT3 is not a good "first" Porsche "to learn with"
While I can understand where they are coming from, I would get what I wanted regardless.
I would rather "learn" on a supermodel even if I was terrible -- if you catch my drift.

The only deciding factor is how much you want to spend.

"technology differences"? not really (don't buy into the hype of 300 more RPM and a new front lip and spoiler), and for less than the difference ($40K), that 997.1 (2007) can be a better car than a stock 997.2 (2010). Especially as a 1st time 911 owner. Driving dynamics are different than that of normal front or mid-engined sports cars. So you don't need the extra power (as a 1st timer). And the handling between the two is essentially the same (put a cup front lip and RS rear spoiler and downforce is the same... suspension is the same). And with the extra $40K you save, add motons and all the suspension mods and you'll have a perfect track toy to learn how to drive on.... and over $20K in your wallet. Just my 2-cents.

Look at this way, the differences between a 996 GT3 and a 997.1 GT3 are considerable and worth the $30k difference.
By comparison, the differences between the 997.1 and 997.2 GT3 certainly dont match up.

2010 unless the difference is $40k, which would mean finding a 2007/08 for about $80k. A well optioned (full leather, PADM, sound pack) .2 gt3 will have a MSRP of roughly $120k. Of course, you can order one for about $116k and have all that you need. I feel that the differences are substantial collectively. There are at least as many changes as the 996/997 transition, just the body has remained similar in this case. Consider that a three model year difference alone is worth at least $15-18Kk, so is the 2010 worth another $15k more, absolutely; well more than that, imo. If you plan on selling the car within three years or so, I would also believe that each car will still depreciate another $30k, so 997.1's will be at $60k-$65k as the .2's will be at $90ish. It just depends if you want to tie up the money.

If you have the money for a 997.2 GT3, then I'd go with a 997.1 GT3/RS save the difference and do suspension mods and the Sharkwerks 3.9 conversion (500 plus hp).
I read Evolution already has made the crank for a 4.2 L motor . Should be big power. If you just must have the centerlocks you can convert the hubs too. Great reason to keep my GT3RS.

Also note that power gain from 6GT3 to 7GT3 was +9.2%; for the mk 2 it is only 4.8%, so a much smaller change (and much less visual change as well)

The difference will be at LEAST $40k....a new 2010 with just leather and PCCB is ~$126k. I have a 2.8k mile 07, would be LUCKY to get $85...thats a gap of $41k +7% tax =$44k

And, yes the percentage was higher, but where is the line? 44 hp is enough for a model change but 20 isn't? As we know the .2 is not limited to only 20 hp.
The driver's *** (seat of the pants power, I mean.) doesn't measure in percentages. Is the 22 additonal hp (4.4%) that dramatic? It can easily become a numbers game.

That's if you want PCCBs. I built a full leather, PADM, with other goodies for about $120k and that's with some unnecessary stuff. I don't know about you, but I have looked for 07 gt3's for 9 months and only found very few with low miles (non PCCB cars) willing to be had for anything below $90k. I know many 07's with iron brakes had sold in the $90-$92 range, some even higher.

Stop trying to defend your position, its all opinion anyway
And if you have a buyer for my car at $92, send them over

Yeah, need some more feaking coffee!!! Only 35 rather than 44, just validates my poisition, thanks. Anyway, it was 381 HP, right? Not like I'm nit picking. Besides, I am going the .2 route so of course my opinion is the right one, ha!
