Great question.

The RS is more exclusive, while the new GT3 is new technology.

Tough call. I can't wait for the responses.

RS.1 is my vote. more exclusive (lower production #'s), prob hold value better than GT3.2 over the long run...

so for the same money, RS.1!

There is an RS local to you: 07, 900 miles, orange, lots of interior mods, $120k

I've had a .1 GT3, two .1 RS's and now a .2 GT3. Easy comparison for me. If you want exclusivity and a nice track car, .1 RS. If you want a road car, .2 GT3 no question. If you're going to track more than street, .1 RS; if you're going to drive on the street with a few track days every year, .2 GT3. Oh, and the exclusivity of the RS hasn't done much for it's values in the past 18 months, it depreciates like most any other car, especially if you put any miles on it. And why bother having it if you're not going to drive the thing regularly.

yeah, what he said.... also consider if financing you will likely get about 1% lower rates on a new car vs. used. And you can spec it the way you want...

Would you say the .1 RS and the .2 GT3 handle similarly on the streets unless pushed to the limits? I'm also on the same boat as the OP. With what the .1 RSs are going for compared to last year's pricing, it is now a "value" to me at least.

appreciate the responses. my intended use is primarily for the street with a couple of track days a year to hone my skills. so about 6-8k miles a year for weekend fun.

a regular GT3 would probably be a better fit for me.

GT3.2

The sad truth is that the new .2RS is going to eclipse the outgoing .1RS in a big way.

The new RS is an amazing car. I would take one, it is just something about the $100000 on top of my current car that makes it a little hard to go out and get one.

I don't think so, and if you read the various forums many .1 RS are choosing not to even attempt an upgrade (even if they could get an allocation). The MY improvements are at best 'incremental" (but the price delta to make the switch is rather large), especially if the Dealers are successful in adding a "market adjustment" premium.

The GT3 is a great car....... but (because of heritage) it is no substitute for an RS.

The .2 GT3s are being discounted... it will be a while before that happens on the .2 RS. That makes the .1 RS the smart buy, especially if you can find an owner who thinks prices are depressed. I think the supply of .1 RS cars is going to dry up very quickly.

I think the GT3 RS usage is more track than not. A low mileage car might have better resale than a GT3 but a 25K mile RS is probably worth less than a similar MSRP GT3 with the same mileage. In the end its a unique car which always has unique/less buyers. The numbers are low for either model. In the end buy what you want that is the only thing that matters.

I ended up getting 2010gt3, I wanted new, for a change, I dont think that any of these cars are a smart money move, they all loose money. Get what makes you happy!!! Nobody gets out alive.
