Tracked, but well cared for cars can be a value for the next guy who plans to track it, no extra cost to make it track ready. The key is to know how it was maintained and driven.

Do you buy a regular used GT3 or one with the 15k of track stuff already put in? I bought the tracked one to carry me over until my new car came.

A 60k GT2 has more problems then just being tracked.

The #1 cost of car ownership is depreciation, especially on high end cars.

A GT2 was on sale here recently and it was priced in the 60's because everyone new she was a track *****.
I think it was mainly because it had over 50K miles. Apex's?

certainly a 100 mile garage queen will command a higher price than a 10,000 mile car, tracked or not.

but my 20,000 mile tracked car is in better mechanical and cosmetic condition than 90% of the 20,000 mile non tracked car out there. and if you bought the 20k non tracked car, you will spend way more money to get the car to the condition my track car is in BOTH mechanically and cosmetically.

u r correct that dep'n is a major cost but dep'n occurs regardless of you drive it or not.
if you drive it A LOT, say 50,000 miles in one year. then you depn per mile is way lower than a garage queen.

Don't forget the "go fast mod" cost. that's usually $100 to $6000 depending on what's needed to go faster then the next guy
Those tequila shots the night before an event add up fast....$200 for food/drink is probably a little "light"

Always bring your own Kettle One and red Bull.

As long as they do not introduce breathalyzers at pit out, you're good.
If you puke a little in your mouth on lap 2 the next morning and still match yesterday's lap time, you're good.

Think about the track fees alone: $300 x10-15= $$3000-$4500, tires minimally 3 sets $4500-6300 depending on make, mounting and balancing $600, gas I don't even factor in. Pads and rotors...less just say I stop counting after 10K. Last year was way over that, and this year, well less just say after 06.15.2011 I had to stop counting again.

I'm trying to do it on the cheap. Well, thats what I tell my wife...really honey, it cheaper then golf! (a she's a pin hole addict)

Okay, Just went back and read more of this thread. After my first year, I realized I could have been in a brand new CUP car for less the cost of my car, mods, maintenance, replacement cost (consumables). So I started researching the cost involved with running a CUP car, 50 hours/$25K for engine rebuild, 15K for tranny rebuild, $2200+ a weekend for tires, $1000 for Pirelli CUP entry fees. Basically I stopped after that...out of my league...

It's around $875 per track day (for me) including pretty much everything except:

-Hotel
-Food
-Gas for to and from the track

After all said and done I think $1k per day is about right if you are not using fresh rubber every weekend.

With slicks I'm using a new set every weekend, but I keep that set to run practice the next weekend, so that adds a bit more to the tab.

Figure for 9 weekend thats about $14k in just tires alone.
