Ralph, i so wish we had roads like that in Florida!
At least we have no ice.

Always great reading about your trips. Around here you must track a gt3 to appreciate it, but not so over there.

+1 on the michelins SS.
As soon as they have them in RS size I will get them.
I put them on my wife's BMW and took it to the track last week. They have good grip and great wear.

What a great car you have. If I would have a 3.6 I'd to it also around the time warrant expires. I drive about 8k a year so, but in 2 years the warranty expires..
If money allows it will be a 4.0rs or a 4.3 engine build.

How about a 3.8 to 4.0 conversion. Several tuner shops have talked about it or are "working on it", but you guys are on the forefront of the liter beater trend.

BTW, how many big block Porsches do you have out there now?

Great work Sharkey.

Interesting questions.

Sharky, how does the 3.9 stack up vs. the 3.8 and admittedly rare and expensive 4.0 cars?

have the availability of the 3.8 and 4.0 factory cars opened up any additional options for you guys in terms of even more displacement, parts, etc...?

Keep up the great wok guys. It really sounds like you have solid quality product s (as usual) and happy customers. This is a great option for HP freaks of the normally aspirated variety.

As I was going up my driveway I noticed I was only 220 miles from logging 23,000 miles on the 3.9 so thought I would just continue south to have lunch with my pals at Sharkwerks.
The roads were wet from the overnight fog and there was a lot of that horrible red volcanic ash that the county spreads on the icy portions, mostly on the tree sections and along the road close to the river. ( yes folks we do get icy roads in Northern Califirnia this time of the Year) we have had mineable rain this year but it has dropped into the low 30's a few days in the last couple weeks so the county boys have been bust spreading the sand. During a normal winter we usually get a fair amount of rain in between the cold spells which cleans the road surface but this year it's just been building up and retaining moister. This made for a fun drive on the way south. On the drive home things had dried up nicely so it was a very good drive. The car was as strong as always and I am totally sold on the Michelin Super Sports on these roads, wet or dry.
I turned 23,000 half way over my favorite section of the loop, as it should be!.
Just wanted to share the day with all you guys who have to keep your cars in the garage this time of the year! Another advantage to living on the west coast. I won't talk about the disadvantages of living in a near bankrupt state
Sorry I missed you. First day back (no pun intended). Funny thing I just thought of something... There's a 3.6 GT3 that's coming down from Fort Bragg. Maybe you should "deliver" it back once it's 3.9'd next month. I'll do the 300mile "driving miss daisy" break-in. There's no substitute for me on that one eh

Hi Ari thanks for the kind words and we're trying! We've got our 15th one coming in on Saturday to do which is exciting.

The differences are actually considerable and more challenging in some ways and easier in others. I'll have more on this subject I promise:P Stock vs stock on all of them I still like the crank from the 3.6/3.8 best but the 3.6 pistons are the lightest and so it revs more freely/quickly. 4.0 has more tq down low but it's not as spikey/edgy either....

Congrats to SnowBoarder as it seems like a certain Ian Kuah did a hands-on test drive of his 3.9L for the cover of Total 911:P

Well it appears as if my plans to reach 30,000 miles on my 3.9 this winter have come to an abrupt end. Back in August I suffered a torn rotator cuff while Mtbiking on one of my favorite single-track trails up in Mendocino. Having suffered the same injury on the opposite shoulder some 15 years ago I instantly knew that I was up against surgery and at least 4-5 month rehab. After a trip to my orthopedic surgeon I asked if he could give me an injection of cortisone/steroids and postpone the surgery until November so I could enjoy the fall months with some more mtbike riding and driving. Reluctantly he agreed and we scheduled the surgery for early November. The injection worked as planned and I managed to get some good time on the loop and ride another 400 miles on my local trails. October is always a fantastic month for both driving and riding here on the north coast.

Everything was going as planned until last Saturday when I was out on a nice 24 mile ride with some friends and ended having a hard crash about 1000 yards from another crash I had last September, same section of downhill and same bike. At my age you think I would have learned, but no such luck! I was much luckier this year, last year I had a concussion and suffered headaches for almost six months and left me pretty bloodied up, broke two back teeth, a broken helmet a couple more fractured ribs and put me out of commission for about a month. This time around the worse I received was a broken collar bone, on the same shoulder, and two fractured ribs. So another trip back to my surgeon, who has been patching me up for the last 15 years, who needlessly to say wasn’t very happy with me. Anyway, the bottom line is he has now put me on mtbike restriction and driving restriction until my surgery next month. He says he has to have a stable shoulder before performing the rotator surgery and is hoping that the collar bone will heal itself in the next couple weeks. What this means is that now I’m looking at 5-6 month of not driving my 3.9 or riding. I am totally bummed as I don’t think I have ever gone more than two weeks without driving my car or riding, other than after last years crash.

I may just have to have Alex come up and get my car for safe keeping and to keep it exercised properly. I hate seeing these cars not driven on a regular basis.
