Rollbar Safety Questions

Hi - I am new to Porsche and this forum. I recently purchased a 2007 GT3 (997.1) and am considering installing a rollbar (GMG WC), sport bucket seats (OEM) and a 6 point harness (OEM). I plan to use the car on the street as well as the track. Do you think this will increase the safety of the vehicle? Will these items make the car less safe on the street (i.e., when not wearing a helmet)? I have heard conflicting points of view on this and read about accidents where the seat/rollbar/harness caused significant problems. Sorry if this topic has been fully discussed before. Thanks for your help.

A full rollcage on the street w/o helmet will reduce safety, but the risks of coming into contact with the WC rollbar you mentioned are pretty slim in any collision on the street. I think harnesses on the street increase risk because most people do not secure them properly when running around town. Loose harnesses are much less safe than OEM belts, IMO. But the short answer to your question is no, if installed properly you will not reduce safety with what you describe, if used properly.

I tend to agree, provided that the bar fits close to the roof of the car, and well behind the front seats, you also have to be properly belted for it to work right...
