I think you'll be surprised that many of the GT3 guys have quite a bit in the suspension too.

As for the GT3 brakes, they don't stop any better, they just take longer to crack the bigger rotors and have a bigger surface area to stave off heat and fade. The TT's stock brakes work fine.

Most of the mods you see on the Turbos are due to big increases in hp that really overwhelm the stock suspension as it would on any car. But for a number of track weekends a year, the Turbo is not a bad car at all.

That being said, I love the 996 GT3's feel (even more than anything in the 997 lineup), and you can't go wrong wit one unless you want to mod it.

Yeah, I think I'll buy a turbo, take it to the track and evaluate what I'm going to need to do from there...

The GT3 will loose about 16% of it's power at 5000 ft elevation the turbo zero! That alone makes it an easy choice and then there's snow. Turbo all the way.

Turbos only maintain power if you turn the boost up at altitude. Otherwise they loose power as well, though far less. FYI.

Most of the modern cars, (porsche has been doing this for over 20 years) the ECU will detect the altitude and spin the turbos to a higher psi to maintain the same performance as sea level.

For instance my Audi S4 would make ~7 psi at sea level and made ~10-11 psi at altitude.

Really? I had no idea, that is good to know, even though I'm not at elevation.

For the record my GT3 does not feel slow and I live at 8150' its all relative the car next to you is breathing the same air.

Hmm. I wonder if they really fully compensate- most turbo cars do not, perhaps because gas available at altitude is usually a few points lower octane. No experience at altitude with the 996 TT, but the 951, 965, etc gen cars didn't do this. They do have altitude sensors, of course, but they didn't use them to crank the boost...

The audi's can and I bet the newer gen Porsches where the ECU can control the wastegates can.

We get 91 octane up here, which is the same as 93 at sea level, so that isn't much of an issue.

I used an electronic boost controller on my 951S, it pumped 16psi into the motor regardless of altitude.

Ron, guess we should trade cars then!

The porsche ecu will compensate (with good fuel) up to 4500 ft. I agree turbo will loose some power, but with sports chrono at 5000 ft it's about 3%-4% =19hp, compared to NA gt3 is 15% or 62 hp.
My home track is at 2500 ft and it's about a 9-10% loss for NA Z06's can't understand why the turbo's motor them on the straights.
