GT3 all the way. If you don't like it get a C2S later, This way no regrets and you would know what the GT3 is about.

IMHO if your going for a C2S i'd rather go for a Nissan GTR. Very streetable and wicked fast.

Please tell me that your opinion is not biased...

Seriously I've always wanted a GT-R, but was scared of the transmission warranty issue. Now that they fix the problem for 2010 models, I don't have any more garage space...

gt3 if the wallet can do it. Both card will depreciate but the gt3 will lose less so the difference in price is less money than it is up front.

I wouldn't say the GT3 will be better financially, this from somebody that has owned 997 GT3, 997 C2S, and 997.2 C2S. Here's why. While the GT3 may hold value a little better, you can't get a super discount on one. I got 12.3% off my ordered 997.2 C2S, which means a $100k stickered car was bought for $82k. On the other hand a $120k stickered GT3 is going to sell for $120k. Right now we are watching as $120k MSRP 997 GT3s are selling in the $80k range and even the 2010 GT3s are going for below MSRP.

Best advice, never make a car buying decision, especially for a sports car, based on some perceived financial analysis. Buy what you want...

12.3% discount off of 100k car is more like 88k vs. 82k. Are you really telling me that you ordered a 2009 997.2 and got an 18% discount? I can see MAYBE one on the lot with the factory rebate to the dealer of 8-10k on "in stock" cars. Believe me, I've pushed these guys. The best I can get now is either a no-GPS car, no Spt Chrono car for 78k (96k MSRP) or 82.5K on no spt chrono (100k MSRP).
on 2010 C2S, best I can get off list is 6k. I can get 9k off 2010 GT3.
All above in color I want.
Issue: I'm not going to track at all. Don't laugh but no sunroof in a summer sports car? And having to deal with the low clearance issue?......I'm thinking about ordering a 100k MSRP C2S with navigation, sport seats, PASM sport suspension, sport chrono, sport exhaust, Maybe the power kit (16k extra). Sporty car which I'll pay about 93k for. More driveability, sunroof...great for the summer...plenty of power for the road..tight suspension....and I can even throw my 6 month old in the back (porsche car seat) with my wife on a nice day....not happening in the GT3....worth about 65k in not too long. GT3 is great but really a track car.....$114k and probably worth about 90k in a couple of years.
So.....as someone said...GT3 probably a better investment but what suits your purpose best? BTW....guys...my wife wants me to get the GT3 because it's so bad. How about that?
GT3 is awesome, looks and sounds incredible....but trying not to put too much weight on track times....because it will be driven aggressively...on the road....

Please forgive my typo on the pricing, it's been a long day. I ordered a 2009 C2S and got a 12.3% discount. My MSRP was $94k and I paid $82k for it and got a few goodies thrown in as well. There are plenty of people right now buying cars off the lot and are still getting $20k or more off. One RennList member the other day reported something like a $101k car for $79,900.

hey thanks...good to know that if I order a C2S 2010, I'm going to push for at least 10% discount off MSRP.

I have an 08 C2S, and have been wondering how the GT3 would be... I keep modding my car but it's nowhere a GT3 would be.

If you are a person who likes to drive his cars to the limit, just get the GT3. If you are a hard core driver who enjoys a rough car get the GT3. If not, get the C2S and enjoy it. The C2S is a great sports car, super for daily street driving.

You will have to bare with the stiff suspension and the clutch with the GT3, don't forget that...

GT3 all the way if you plan to track, even if only a couple of times a year.
It should be a crime to own one and not track it, IMHO.

Take it from a track guy (PCA Instructor), the GT3 is not the end all and be all car. Yes, it's great on a the track, but the C2S with minor modifications is just as great. The 997.2 C2S is every bit as much the driving car the 997.1 GT3 is - I've owned them both with heavy tracking. My 09 C2S has Sport PASM, which makes a world of difference. It's a superior suspension to the 997.1 GT3's and I'm sure the 997.2 GT3 suspension now trumps the C2S SPASM. With a few thousand in minor mods to a 997.2 C2S you will have every bit the performer that the 997.1 GT3 is. Beyond that initial level you end up with the exact same safety cost considerations regardless of which car you choose (ie: Roll bar, harnesses, GT2 Sport Bucket Seats). So trust me, it's not that you HAVE to get a GT3 if you want a good track experience. Just look at the Nurburgring lap times to see just how close the cars are. 7:50 in a stock 997.2 C2S and the 7:42 in a 997.1 GT3. That's just 8 seconds on a very long 13 mile track. Now take that 997.2 C2S and throw control arms, toe links, a good alignment, SRF, Pagid Yellows, Sharky Bypass, Softronic, Short Shifter on and use the same tires the GT3 has and guess what? Then there's the 997.2 GT3 - monster, right? Nurburgring lap time of 7:40, just 2 seconds quicker than the old GT3 - and with Walter Rohrl at the helm again.

The beauty of the 997.2 C2S is that it's a very comfortable street car, even with the SPASM. So, as I've written in other posts, including my track notes on the 07 C2S, 07 GT3, and 09 C2S, this new C2S is really a fantastic car, can be bought "on the cheap", is easy to modify for track use, etc.

meaning the X51 pwr kit which takes it up to 408 HP. I end up with a 114k MSRP C2S....close to the GT3 but more driveable. although more $$, will that help resale on the C2S because there aren't many and guys like you love the extra juice?

Some great advice being given here, and if you still havent made your decision, I say go test drive both again. For me the choice is not about the money ( lets be honest, your looking at a 100k toy either way), it should be about how you feel when your in the car. Take it for an hour or so, get a good feel for both, that should make your decision much easier.

As for your above comment, I would not add another 16k for that minimum amount of power. If your about the power then your approaching turbo pricing and then you might as well test drive that and see what you think.

After reading all your posts in this thread, I get the feeling your heart wants the GT3 but your logical side is pushing you towards the S. The truth is everyone who said "you really cant go wrong either way" is right. However, with that being said, if the choice was put in front of me, I would go GT3, in fact I almost did before I chose the turbo, it just suited my needs better. Hope you find what your looking for
