09 C2S or 2010 GT3?

thanks D, great advice and you nailed it. Heart with the GT3, logical and practical side C2S. This helps. This AM you guys have got me pointed back to the GT3. I figured the X51 wasn't advisable. And you are right...forget the numbers....it's a $100K toy either way you cut it.

Again, I'd say look at the Ring lap times by Walter Rohrl: 7:50 C2S, 7:42 GT3.1, 7:40 GT3.2. Those are extremely close numbers. Add the power kit and you gain a few seconds. On the street, you won't notice any difference other than tricks of the mind. GT3 is louder, feels faster (I owned them both).
But, until I owned the GT3 I didn't realize just how similar a car it was to the C2S. So you may have to buy one and then maybe after a year you'll be like some of us that have sold our GT3s in favor of the new DFI C2S w/ Sport PASM.
It all comes down to what you want. I wanted a great street car that was capable on the track. The C2S is a much better street car and is extremely close (seconds on a 13 mile track) in track performance to the GT3. I gave up those few theoretical seconds for having a comfortable drive every day, not scraping on every speed bump and driveway apron. etc.

RT.....this one sunk in. Especially...."if you don't get one...you'll always wonder what it's like to own one." I love this website. Getting perspective from those who have done it. Consistently, the GT3 is the car that you guys love. What's also pushing me is that the car I want is configured VERY close to how I'd configure it if ordering one. Since the dealer is willing to discount as well.....guess the stars are aligning.
I'm pretty sure that's the direction I'm going in. BTW, Porsche pulled back the 10K rebate that they were giving to dealers to blow out the 09 911s. You can still get a good discount but not as good as before Jan 4.

Actually, if you get a GT3, you'll need to do the same things with brakes and wheels as you would with a C2S. Stock GT3 pads aren't up to the track, nor is the fluid. Rotors wear just the same and I replaced my GT3 rotors on the same schedule as my C2S. Same with wheels, in fact the GT3 wheels are worse than the C2S ones because they are actually the heaviest wheels Porsche makes. Same with the tires on the GT3 - Faux Cups. Finally, you'll still need to align the suspension.
In a nut shell, the only thing differently you need to do with a C2S is lower control arms, which ran me something like $1300 with alignment, so an added cost of $1100 over just an alignment with the GT3.

No, Im talking about getting a car and feeling the need to tweak it. And not necessarily for the track either...
Between the two, I would rather have a gt3 in my garage than a regular c2s...looks/feels/smells like a more interesting experience.

Righ, but you don't need to do anything to a C2S for the street either. As I mentioned before, if you desire a GT3 you have to buy one. Some find, as I did and several others, that the 09 C2S is a better fit for an all-around Porsche and with just $1100 in additional investment in control arms is as capable a car on the track (plus the same tweaks for fluid, brakes, wheels/tires). I did find that the "tone" of the C2S needed a little bump, so in my 07 I did X51 headers and AWE cats and in my 09 I did a Sharky bypass. The GT3 really didn't "need" any exhaust tweak.

I will add that mine is not a daily driver...and living in a rural area, i can count the times Ive scraped on one hand.
The c2s is has a clutch/shifter that feels, well, it doesnt feel like anything. The gt3 ...
The c2s may be a better all around car, but for who?
That being said, the only choice for me was a gt3...

Bought an '08 GT3. Got tired of scraping it everywhere I went like others mentioned. Sold it (at a nice premium too ). Leased a C4S instead, much more DD friendly but.... I couldn't get that GT3 out of my head, I missed it so much... Night and day difference between the 2 cars.. Now that my quick 2 year lease on C4S is running out, I should have a '10 GT3 next week and I am so happy. Hoping the front axle lift will solve the only beef I ever had with the last GT3.

I had a 993 TT and was taking it to the track alot. Thats when I found out about the GT3's.
Bought a monster 996 Manthey GT3 and tracked it and noticed its "manners' on the street werent so good. SO I sold that and bought a 997 GT3. It was a bit better in the ride department but still a harsh street machine. It really shined in the track environment.
But It was a hassle to do little things that a DD would do. So my back was getting worse and I had surgery scheduled and I sold my GT3. Really missed it. AMG C63 was the replacement, but as my back got better I looked at getting a 08 RS. But I was going to miss my nav bluetooth stereo. SO when the C2S PDK came out I went and drove on and really put it through its paces. MAN what a GREAT car. It can do things well in so many areas. COuldnt get it out of my mind. Then throw in the 20K off MSRP
and in the perfect color, I had to buy it. Its as fast and agile as the 996 GT3 yet in itssoftest mode it is easily driven around town as DD. Truly a DD that can go to get groceries or go to the track and kick some but if you so choose. Its my DD now and i love the car. No regrets about passing on RS at all!!

This helps somewhat. I'm headed back to a C2S. 1) I have found a GT3 2010 that is close to what I want (color) a bit more loaded up but. The dealer will take about 5k off list. Don't get me wrong...when I have test driven the car....awesome. But I keep coming back to this: I won't track it, I am an athletic guy who wants performance and "stiff" sport feel. But on a nice summer night, I want to take it out for an ice cream with the sunroof open, my 9 month old in the backseat and enjoy my summer sports car. Issue: Can't find an 09 close spec with the sport options/color I want and ordering one right now is a problem. The dealers will tell you Porsche is screwed up with the whole thing. I have found a 2010 C2S spec'd as close to what I want (can't believe it) color and sport seats, sport suspension, sport exhaust, nav, etc. They are willing to swap wheels to give me the ones I want and ship the car for about 5k off list.
I'm thinking as awesome as the GT3 is, this is a better all around sports car. Guys have told me that C2S with sport options is a great machine......forgetting about resale as a GT3 will always do better despite the higher up front cost.
