Pricing of new products always takes into account volumes and demand. Why is a Veyron priced at $1.5 M Euro, Carrera Gt at $450K, Enzo at $650K (real world price is over $1M). The new Lexus LFA is going to be over $400K. The truth is each manufacturer of these cars with the exception of Porsche has lost money on bringing these cars to market at those prices. The only reason Porsche has not lost money is because the build volume of the CGT is over 1000 units. Everyone else spent about $1 billion developing these cars from scratch and until you sell over 1000 units of these cars you will not make back your costs.

Having driven some of the other interesting cars Gallardo, 360 Challenge Stradale, for example on the street (real world driving), there is a difference in more than just the stopping distance and overall feedback from the pedal feel for the brakes on these cars compared to the Porsche products (GT3, 911's, etc). Just by switching carbon ceramic rotors of ones developed and optimized for one particular car (Corvette ZR1 or Z06) to another car like the GT3 will not necessarily yield better results when it comes to optimizing braking feel and performance. The pedal feel and feedback has been developed over many years for Porsche so the system has been developed to near perfection. I say this because I happen to find the Gallardo's brakes to be particularly grabby on the street. Not easily modulated in low speed driving. That imperfection has not been developed out because the car stops fine on the track at high speeds (because the engineer didn't prioritized low speed braking feel as part of the development cycle for the Gallardo). So I think those that look only at the costs don't really appreciate the efforts gone into building such a nice product and fine tuning of the system for each application. After all if one relegated a Porsche just to its parts and say why does Porsche charge so much for a 911 Carrera compared to a less expensive C6 Corvette which has bigger wheels and tires, bigger engine, etc then there is no appreciation for the development that one car has over the other.
