SharkWerks 996 GT3 Project Car Build
#47
25-28lbs IIRC
Very interested to see cams go in? I know of one tuner in Europe that does this for 420-430 bhp claimed (as opposed to the 3.8s at more like 450bhp and heaps more torque). Cams don't seem popular though? Also quite scarey as they seem to involve junking the variable timing etc - is that necessary as it seems like resale suicide?

Who me? Captain Slow-Slow? We'll put a real driver in but you can bet I'll be out there too doing "parade" laps
Thanks man... it'll take some time but we'll see:P
Thanks alpine! Not exactly sure what we're doing as far as the rest... still in planning phase:P I'm not "big" on decals for some reason tho
25 front 28 rear....
Good points Dan but actually we're hoping to see more with our engine as a system.. not to mention the exhaust and other tweaks we're doing. It'll actually drive much like stock if the 997 was anything to go by. Not planning on a super-aggressive cam but as far as resale goes... these are such a good price right now that she's a keeper anyways

Those wheels are going to look great. Do you plan on adding the decal? It would be real nice to make a rear whale tail like on the sports classic 911 and replace the the euro spoiler with that. I know its not as good aerodynamically but it would look awesome. Post pics right away with the wheels on.

Fantastic project Alex. I did not know 6 GT3's engine has that much similarity with 7 GT3. Both are 3.6L? Now, do you need to dyno tune the 6 GT3 or can you just use the software for 7GT3? Love to see the power difference on the dyno chart comparing 6 and 7 GT3 with same exhaust set up side by side
You know I been studying your race exhaust trying to figure out ways to gain back the small loss of torque in the lower RPM ... perhaps using stock vacuum valve to time the opening and closing of a custom mesh like flap in lower RPM for more back pressure? There got to be a way to pass sound at Laguna with your race exhaust short of stuffing two metal scrubber in the tail pipes lol

Did you notice any gains in power by removing the CATS versus leaving them in?

With the motor undergoing surgery we're left with a few other things to do. Unfortunately when we got the car and inspected the brakes the zircon inserts for the pistons on the caliper were in bad shape and actually broken.... Rebuild time? Maybe... Instead we dusted off our Brembo GTR brake kit (which I've used many times on GT2's, GT3's and TT's). We actually saved some weight with these guys over the factory pieces thanks to the lightweight eight piston calipers and two piece rotors (slotted of course).
With the increase in size we had to test fit the wheels too:

Funny you mention this. When I disconnect the battery fume drain tube there was a very strong acid smell - so strong it made me cough. Lead acid battery ... gotta get rid of them. I will help you install the light weight Li-ion battery for free if you yell at me couple more time on the track

Hmm I thought it was on both sides on GT3s and where water was captured by the plastic undertray and kept against the body?
