How do you think the Saleen S7 compares to the GT???
You can certainly find good deals on the Carrera GT right now, and my search continues for this.... I have come across a few Saleen S7s which are priced in the same range as well.
The Saleen is a very wild and exotic looking ride with a big 7L engine, and if you have seen it up close there is a ton of engineering and high cost parts dumped into it. Obviously the GT is an amazing car with German engineering and power to boot.
They are both raced designed super exotics. The Saleen weighs a couple hundred pounds less and offers a 625hp package, which is slightly more than than the GT. The torque winner is the Saleen as well. I am not sure about handling and workmanship and quality, but I thought some of you might chime in to help me make my decision.
I think some would argue that they are completely different cars, but I think they are both lightweight race cars adapted to the street. The roofless GT is a plus in the intangibles arena as well.
Thoughts anyone???
Thanks!

The CGT offers more. It is both a coupe and a convertible. Performance is probably the same in straight line but in track work I suspect the CGT would skunk the Saleen.
Finally, the CGT is built and backed by Porsche. You get a 4 year warranty and many service locations. Porsche quality also must be considered.
The downside to both cars is they are too powerful for US roads and highways.

It wasn't too powerful today or Thursday :-) Stupid or not, I find a way to use all the car - often. It really is a fabulous piece of machinery. I don't know what was going on with Larry's car except the bad clutch was replaced shortly after we drove it. Also, I wonder if Porsche adjusted the rear sway bar from the factory on models after Larry's because the car is GLUED to the road in the corners even when it's uneven - unlike Larry's car which exhibited unacceptable lateral hop. The clutch is absolutely no problem - in any situation now that I've gotten used to it. I've even gotten used to the ride height but the car will be that much more enjoyable when Porsche finally releases the + 1/2" ride height option. As for the S7, I highly doubt the car is nearly the Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde the CGT is. The CGT can be mellow (and nearly as nice riding) as a 997 or C R A Z Y - it's entirely up to you when to let the beast loose. I finally got a chance to put a CD in the thing today and have to say I'm very impressed with the stereo (after having two crap "hi fi" boxes in our last two Pcars). While the Stradale sounds much more race car like inside than the CGT does with the tops on, I have to admit it's nice being able to hear the stereo and talk on the phone when I want to which really isn't an option in the Stradale. This silly car is growing on me more and more everytime I drive it. I have a feeling I'm going to get as used to it as I did my 996, and I've never "known" a car better.

im wondering, is the 1/2 inch higher ride height you all are refering to the lift that porsche says they will fit to CGT's to raise the ride height at owners will or are the upcoming CGT's actually going to come out of the factory 1/2 inch higher? i am assuming the former.

Here are the new numbers for the 2005 Saleen S7.
I wish Porsche could lighten up the CGT and add some power perhaps through a turbo or supercharger. Otherwise, the Saleen would leave the CGT in the dust....
Performance
0-60 mph: 2.8 sec
0-100 mph: 6.0 sec
Quarter Mile: 10.7 sec @ 136 mph
Skidpad: 1.10g
Top Speed: --- mph
Braking, 60-0 mph: --- ft
Slalom Speed: 73.0 mph

~ 500 miles so far and loving it immensly. The is Jekyl and Hyde at will; an incredible experience. I can't wait to get beyond break in, of which I will still respect this beast. Clutch is a non issue period.
