Problems Filling 996 GT3 Fuel Tank

Purchased an '04 GT3 last week and drove 400 miles to get it home. After 2 hours I stopped for fuel; the nozel was shutting off within a fraction of a second and the fuel was immediately backing up out of the filler neck. Apparently the tank was filled with air (pressure not vacuum) after holding the flap at the top of the neck open for about 5 -10 minutes to let the air escape, I was able to refuel the car. When I stopped again about 5 hours later, I had the same problem. I left the fuel cap on loose overnight and re-fueled about 1 mile from my home the next morning without a problem. Any ideas as to why/how the fuel tank is being pressurised?

Tried putting the nozzle in from every direction; since the tank was pressurized with air it was just spitting the fuel back out untill all of the air had escaped.

Check your E6 fuse.

I had this issue on my '99 C2. In searching the forums the newer cars ('02+) have a circuit that controlls that valve and it's not unheard of for the E6 fuse to be bad causing this issue (This is C2 specific so it might be a different fuse in a GT3).

Since mine was a '99 however it didn't have an E6 fuse and I had to resort to performing a TSB that was put out for this issue for early cars which involved pulling the fuel gauge out of the tank and zip-tying the fule lines up and out of the way of the valve in the tank.

best of luck..hopefully it's just the fuse. If you need info on the other TSB shoot me a PM and I"ll find it for you.

Andy, Unfortunastely I don't have the 15 posts required to send you a PM. Is the valve that you're reffering to the Purge Valve at the Tank?
