when your windows are down? i received two smacks (seperate times) on a mountain drive recently and a passenger of mine got one last week. it's gonna suck large for Porsche if one gets into a driver or passenger's eye.

Never heard of this problem before. Is it because of people driving in front of you, or is it because of the front wheels "spitting" them in an upward direction towards the windows? Doesn't sound safe to <u>not<u> wear goggles

Are you sure it's not from envious cars passing the other direction?

Ben,

My CGT isn't here yet (maybe in another 30 days), but I have been smacked once or twice in 996 cabriolets when the top was down. I never figured out whether it was my front tires or another vehicle that got the pebbles launched into the air.

The CGT has those big openings behind the wheels that I always thought rocks would be thrown up in. Even the one at Daytona that they had at Rennsport was marked up through those opening just from a few laps on the track. I would have been concerned about a large amount of rock chips from the openings with the large and softer tires. Find it hard to think a rock could get through the openings and make it to a person in a seat.

Maybe from a car in front with the windows down it gets in from the side??

No cars were in front of (or near) me any during any of the three incidents. Two of the incidents were on curvy moutain roads during spirited driving. I'm fairly certain the aerodynamics of the car suck the air that way and when the windows are down, it causes an interuption in the designed path. On two of the occassions the tops were on w/ the windows down and on one occassion the tops were off and windows down. I never hear rocks hitting the windows when they are up.

Sounds logical....

The windows down may just suck the rocks that make it up that far into the car.. That would explain why it is random since I would not think many would make it that high through the openings..

I just received a set of 3m pieces for my 996tt that are custom cut for the air scoop, and front and rear wheel arches. Not sure if this would work for the CGT.
