thanks. the piece that is broken doesn't look serviceable by the looks of that picture which means they may have to order a new cover which probably won't take too long (haha).

Ben... your car is so beautiful that you should get a professional photographer to photograph it.

Although I am no professional, I would do it for free next time I am in CA!

Anyways, are you bringing it to the dealer tommorow?

Yep, they are torx and we got it apart. there are apparently two problems - one of the plastic arms jumped it's plastic collar (fixed) and the second is that one of the two arms that extend out to secure the glove box, the triangle ears became unglued or separated from the rod that works the actuation in the "cam" type mechanism. The unglued or separated one is the longer towards the passenger door. It appears however that by removing the c-clip securing the one arm of the mechanism you might be able to remove the right side triangle and rod to reglue or replace. It appears that from the diagram provided however that Porsche being as nice as possible doesn't show or supply that single part by itself.

the problem is

hey arling, can you or anyone else pull up these part numbers?

996.552.509.00
996.552.279.00

it turns out the plastic arm broke which goes into the first part number but the first part number is rivoted into the 2nd and the felt on the back means both have to be replaced. it "looks" like these might actually be 996 parts and might actually be available in less than a year.

"crap"? heck no, that's fantastic news cause apparently it is the same for the 996 and boxster. if there isn't one in stock, i might even be able to get the dealer to take it off a new 986/7 or 996/7 until a replacement arrives.

Yeah sorry Ben but I have PET 5 and I don't have 02+ part numbers. If anyone has any update I would love it! IN any event I think I did my part as my freaking fingers hurt from that weird torx, but it beats studying. Have fun with sneaky and give him his present-

thanks brian, but it's under warranty and i was just trying to figure out if it was a part commonly found in 02-present boxsters and 911s so i could find out if it's readily available.

I put the pink skirt on Pete's windshield wipers as you requested. He found it after some butt kicking at the kart place today :-)

Incidentally, the entire glove box and door has to be replaced and "it's on back order" (not the same one as the 996/7 and 986/7). So, I will be driving and showing (Ferrari club this week and the Carlsbad show this weekend) the CGT without a glovebox and with a big whole in the dash where it goes for who knows how long. The Ferrari guys ought to get a big kick out of this given how many Porsche guys crack on Ferrari's quality and need to wait for parts.

Tape that up ASAP, use Aircraft tape and tell the Ferrari guys that the CGT is so fast that the glove box pops open Automaticly for the CHP and the only thing that can keep it closed is Aircraft tape.
