997.2 RS Production Numbers
Does anyone know where I can find the production numbers for the 2010 or 2011 RS? I am hearing that Porsche is making way more than they said, and the rarity of the car is losing it's appeal. The deal where mine came from started with 6, talked Porsche out of 3 more, and then was given 2 more later. That's crazy too many. I would like to know how many have hit the shores as of today, and if anyone knows more about future numbers.

this might help a bit. hopefully it'll be updated soon when the June number comes in.

i agree with u in some extend. seems like there are more than handful of RS on the market now. i've seen at least 1, some have 2 RS on dealer's floor or inventory (that's more than 5 dealers in socal, out of all market we should be selling them the easiest compare to other part of the country). that's not including many posts about dealers have 2011 allocations for spec. that means another wave of cars coming in about later part of the year...
RS represents a such narrow market in the 911 lineup, keep the rarity is the key to success. seeing it sitting on the dealer floor is not a good thing at all...

Porsche is going to sell as many cars as they can. I don't see any reason from a business point of view to limit the production of the RS if there is strong demand, especially if they (what I presume) earn more on a GT3/RS than on a regular 911.

I agree, but it also pissed me off.

More cars or less buyers?
Rich: I think you got the question right. My take: Less buyers due to our poor economy. If you look at Max Power's gt3 RS Registry website, for the US he lists 300 RS's MY2007 and 113 RS's in MY2008. I doubt we got even 250 MY2010 RS's for the US (when all figures are released) and we don't know yet what number Porsche is planning to send to US for MY2011. Even now, as cc08gt2 posted, Porsche AG is allocating to certain US dealers a few extra RS's (apparently fully loaded to use the parts and raise the profitability) at random, regardless the initial low RS allocation announced. This is nothing like we experienced in the '07/'08 period for RS's, where demand far exceeded supply. In addition, I believe that many of the potential new RS buyers either have to, or want to, sell their .1 RS's in order to feel comfortable purchasing a new .2 RS. And the depreciation hit on these .1 RS is significant. And in some cases they end up no selling them, so they postpone the new RS purchase. Remember we usually only see the asking prices by dealers on those .1 RS's. They (the dealers) are offering their customers significantly less on the trade (sub-$100K by a large margin) and then trying to re-sell $105 to $120K (about current average) to the general public. In my opinion, one of the most interesting things to watch will be what happens to new & used MY2010 regular gt3's prices in the near future. Remember most '10 gt3's were well optioned and thus had MSRPs in high $120's, $130's and even $140's. Most of these gt3's were produced and imported before the Dynamic Engine Mounts and Front Lift were available. For basically a smaller delta than historically the norm, you can today purchase more performance & exclusivity (the MY2010/MY2011 RS) at MSRP with no mark-up. Some of these '10/'11 RS's remain at present unsold at dealer showrooms. Others are even available for fall production to your individual specs with no mark-up! Why would most buyers choose the regular '10 gt3 (new or used) unless the later's values drop dramatically relative to the new '10/'11 RS's? z356
