997 GT3 before 997 Turbo

I just came home to my March 2005 issue of AUTOMOBILE and in there is a short article on the 997 Turbo and it states under MEGA 911s:

" The Turbo follows both the Carrera 4S and the 400-hp GT3, which again will be a lightweight, nonturbo track star."

Just wanted to pass this on.

400 HP? I wonder how long it will take for someone to R&D a SC Kit for the 997 to compete...?

sounds more logical to me since for the GT3 you do not nned to develop the AWD system or different engine (if I remember 996GT# gen 2 is based on Carrera NA engine not the GT1 engine derivative in the TT/GT2)

To the contrary, Mansour. The GT3 is a highly evolved version of the same GT1 block as the 996TT, except with freerer breathing and revving heads, cams, higher compression, etc.

Thats not true, like Tyson stated the 996 GT3 motor is derived from the GT1 such as the Turbo and GT2.

According to the UK lot the Turbo will be out this year with the GT3 late 2005 or early 2006.

They want to ensure a good spread of models over the next few years and dont want to dilute the Boxter CS sales with a GT3 launched at the same time.

Interesting times ahead!
