Tires for track?

I'd go with the cheap and predictable RA1's.
I have the same BBS as Mooty is selling.
Mooty buys and sells compulsively, he can't be helped.
Please someone buy them today or tomorrow. They will be gone by Tuesday even though I can't afford it, but I can't leave $1500.00 in savings on the table.

Good question. What do they run a set?

Where's a cheap place to buy the BFG RA1s? Compareable performance to the Hoosier R6s? How do they wear compared to the R6s? What psi do you want hot?
Toyo RA1's cost about the same, but you can find the 3 years old for about half that. I run 245 and 335, hoosiers I run 255, 265 will probably fit also, but no one has tried as far as I know.
IMHO 3 year old, but never mounted tires are fine and the RA1's are a bit slower then Hoosiers in their prime, but they are pretty good from beginning to end. They might last 30+ sessions before they cord..

Prices are roughly $1400 for the R6, they are a few seconds faster in their prime (About 10 heat cycles). before and after those cycles they are the same as Toyo RA1.

BF Goodrich makes the R1.
Toyo makes the RA1.
IIRC, you can't get either of the R1s or RA1s in 19s, biggest size is R18. Another good alternative is the NT-01, which is made by Nitto [Toyo is the parent company of Nitto]. Unfortunately, I think these are R18 max as well. The R1 seems to get good reviews and lots of talk about being as fast as Hoosiers.
All of these tires are good alternatives for the track, depending on your driving style, setup and budget. You won't go wrong with any of them. If you really have the need for speed, try the Hoosier R80/R100. Zoom-zoom!

There's a slight nomenclature confusion going on.

Can you give more info on the Hoosier R80/R100. Their relevance to the R6's?

As expected, these are faster than R6s, but don't last as long. You will likely need setup adjustments as well. Be sure to consult your racing shop before you burn through $2K in tires

R6 is the DOT-R compound. Hoosier also makes racing slicks, including the R80 and R100. The R80 is the stickier of the two. They are a bit more expensive than the R6s. You can get them from various race tire dealers, including Bob Woodman and Phils Tires. About $1600 a set for my sizes [18"].
