Tires for track?
What is the current thinking on tires for the track? There are a lot of old threads, but thought there might be some current opinions out there! Lets talk tires!

I think most run Hoosier R6. Some run Toyo R888. Michelin sport cups are a reasonable Alternative for HPDE and track days b/c of their long wear potential and reasonable grip. 18" wheels will increase your tire selection. If you have PCCB and centerlocks on a .2 the selection of 18" wheels is limited. I have a set of TECH1-110's from Forged alloys on order. Also if you have 18" wheels you can run Michelin Cup car slicks.

I run Hoosier R6's on my RS. And they wear out fast. 1 set lasts the weekend and maybe another day at most. The MPSC's are more money but will last about 3 weekends, but they don't hold as well. I am running 19's, which means the tires are too expensive. 18's are the best wheel choice for size and you bring in many brand choices. Right now, everyone is gouging people on the price of centerlock wheels. If you have the older 5 lug setup, you are in even better shape.

We've got center locks at way under BBS pricing made by Forgeline. PM me if you have any questions.

IF you are just starting out with tracking your car stick with stock tires. They have plently of grip plus they will talk back to you (ie squeel and sqwak) and you will need those audible noises to let you know where the limits are.
After you progress with track event and become solo you can go with Toyo R888 or RA1's if they are still made in your sizes by then. Pirelli Trefeo is out and have been well reviewed as well.
