That's what I've read. Have you heard that too? 991 will be an 8cyclinder?....all coming from Teamspeed forum on the subject....that thread has 30 pages!

Rennteam says that the 991 (998 has been taken) GT3 will still have the GT1 "motorsports engine." That would suggest 6 cylinders, not 8. RS over there on Rennteam seems to know a great deal about what is going on at the factory...

Perfect. I got the guy to do this in Mexico Blue, as I would order that color if they would allow.

following that logic, then the RS special edition wouldn't be so special?
it's like turbo
you get turbo S, then next round the regular turbo has what turbo S has.

Latest feedback on the other board (TS) is that this LE version will not be hybrid or Kers, it will be a 4.0L with around 500hp as initially reported. No changes to the existing RS bodystyle. It appears that Porsche will focus on their hybrid technology for future competition cars and will provide this version as a swan song of sorts. Wondering if I should still pick up that 3.8RS?
Good information!
this picture is amazing

For those discussing the 8cyl rumor... check out Ruf's new V8 powered 911. They created from scratch their own 8cyl engine for the car with stunning results. Wonder if Porsche had a hand in the engines design??? Heard that some of the same people may have been used....

IMHO would personally like to see a 4.0L in line 6 with extensive weight-savings and caron body work like the RSR to end the 997 line with the most extreme 911 yet (maybe since 959). This would also be a great way for Porsche to celebrate its anniversary.

I completely agree. Rep point for you.

inline 6

Thinking the same thing. Doesn't the inline design go against everything that Porsche 6-cyl engines stand for?
Flat-6 = Low CG, fits well into rear-engine configuration
Inline-6 = High CG, doesn't fit behind the rear axle
